Sheryl Crow and Chrissie Hynde were on my list too.

Ms Ross wasn't on my list but I did "meet" her when she accompanied Gene Simmons on KISS' 1980 UK tour.

As he sang in a fairly high register...who would be the male Robert Plant?

Dusty, Amy, Karen, Aretha, Debbie and Doris Day will feature..maybe Vera. I'm giving up on Marlena , Sister Rosetta and Big Mama Thornton.

Stellar list from 11 to 20 any of them could have been top 10 and you wouldn't blink an eyelid , suspect a few more UK artists in the top ten although my remaining are from other countries.

Never been a fan of Madonna however you cannot deny her strength of mind , self belief and ability to adapt to change probably the biggest selling female artist to date.

strength of mind does not make a great voice!

Two more for me, Chrissie Hynde and Lucinda Williams. Pleased to see 5 other people voting for Lucinda. She influenced a great many others in her genre. “Car Wheels”, “Lucinda Williams”, “Essence”, “World Without Tears”, all albums full of cracking songs……

Just got my first two , coincidentally CH and LW, I’m not o big fan of female vocalists , but LW is a great songwriter ‘Car Wheel’ is one of my favourite albums .
Hence LW was my top pick.
