Hard to explain without knowing a bit of basic anatomy, basically all your internal organs are contained within a cavity, and a hernia is were there is a weakness in the cavity and it's contents push out, disforming the normal shape of the cavity. Generally not serious just sore and uncomfortable, and needs an operation to correct.

A hernia usually takes about 6 weeks to get back onto a football pitch.
The most common form of hernia in football is called "Gilmores groin" named after the guy who originally diagnosed it.
It is when you tear the muscle wall and you get some kevlar gauze put in.
Not nice to be honest!
 
A guy who plays football with us has had an operation for a hernia about 3 weeks ago. Still not going to be back for another 3 or 4 weeks.

Most footballers tend to leave it until the end of the season to get repaired, but hasn't Torres got a problem with his thigh too? Maybe he will get them both done at the same time and hopefully miss the game against us, and a few other liverpool games so we can move away from them in the table

Liverpool without Gerrard and/or Torres are shite
