Torres (Merged)

From KopTalk

Guillem Balague has backed up what we've been saying for an age and that is that Fernando Torres is considering leaving Anfield.
The Spanish football pundit believes Torres could quit Liverpool during the summer but with Manchester City having missed out on Champions League qualification, Barca set to sign David Villa and Champions Chelsea playing down their interest, the striker may be forced to sit tight.
Balague said: "I disagree with the suggestion that Manchester City, without Champions League qualification, may be the best option for Torres.
"He is seriously considering his future and Chelsea would be an interesting option, now that Barcelona have got David Villa wrapped up.
"But, aside from City, no other club has shown anything like the profound interest that Liverpool showed him when he left Atletico.
"Anything is possible."

Todays Mirror exclusive - Gerrard for 40 million

I hope there is truth in this, our need for Gerrard (or a Gerrard type player) is greater than our need for Torres. We need a talisman in midfielder to drive the team forward and there is no one better at that than Gerrard.

He's nearly thirty so would not be a long term signing but could get us well on course to challenging for the title and would certainly inspire some of the world class players to join him if he were to sign for us.

would rather have Gourcouff.

Would still take the scouser, though. Exactly the kind of player we need, on the field at least.

that said, to say that he's lost it completely is a bit unfair. He's got no midfield behind him (no Alonso anymore), his wingers are dire, and if I had to guess Liverpool had a decent record whenever him and Torres both played at the same time. I saw Gerrard almost will his team to win on a few times this year (Birmingham away springs to mind) but the team around him is completely shit. If you have a Barry or De Jong playing behind him and he can spray the ball around to AJ, Carlos, whoever our new strikers will be etc I think you'll see him closer to his 08-09 levels than you saw in 09-10.
