Tough start to the season compared to our rivals | December comparison (Pg10)

It sort of backs up the idea that City have a higher ceiling than the other sides. But we'd also kind of knew that from the games we've played against the other top sides.
it's interesting to see the patterns develop really, Liverpool either thump their opponent or have a right ding-dong battle, Chelsea are immense away but starting to struggle at home etc.

The only game of concern for me was the Southampton one. We were bad and outplayed for large parts. I think tiredness played a big role, but that's likely to crop up again later on so it's something we need to be hyper vigilant to avoid.

The Tottenham loss was caused by us missing half a team and having no preseason; that won't be an issue moving forwards. The PSG defeat was down to their individual player quality. It might crop up again in the CL but in the PL it's likely a rare issue for us ahead. We won't play at Anfield in the league again. West Ham was an unlucky performance with the 2nd team against a resolute defence. And the Palace game, okay we were a goal down but if we played the way we did in the 2nd half but with 11 men there's a good chance we could've won. We won't play too often with 10 men for a full half.
Getting knocked out of the CC won’t do us any harm in the long run and being able to play a second string in Leipzig is good too. An easy FA cup draw would be the icing on the cake.

We can focus on the Prem league totally now. A tough schedule but 8 very winnable games before Chelsea.

Liverpool are big time flat track bullies this season. I haven't been impressed by them once against any decent side all season.

So here's how we compare in December (before some decent fixtures in January).

City:

December: I think Aston Villa is the immediate danger fixture and then the last couple have the potential to be tricky if we're not on it.

January: Tough but manageable. Chelsea game is huge.

Chelsea:

December: Chelsea's run actually isn't too bad but West Ham and Wolves away could be tricky, West Ham are decent and Wolves don't concede many (don't score many either though). Villa away could be tough if they're still in good form.

January: 3 tough games, worse if Mendy is missing for them. Better if Salah and Mane are missing.

Liverpool:

December: Probably the hardest run over xmas out of the 3. Merseyside derby at Goodison (even though Everton are shite), Wolves away, Spurs away and Leicester away, any of which could be tricky on the day.

January: Tough, harder without Salah and Mane.

100% convinced our fixtures were engineered to cut us free from the title race early doors.

Yep and the Christmas and new year period where the gap between games is less than the scousers who get the longest time between games now this is the third year that this as happened to us! It happened to Liverpool two seasons back and Klopp moaned and whinged for a week.

But Klopp gets off scot free, imagine if Pep starts moaning the media will be all over him like a rash.
