Quintana showed real guts but his strategy benefited Sky alone, and as someone here has said, all Froome needs to do now is stay upright. I actually thought he looked really uncomfortable on the last climb while Porte seemed the stronger. However, his acceleration was amazing - he destroyed the field. Poor Contadour seems a shadow of his former self, while the debate over the leadership of BMC has been settled after van Garderen's ride today.
Interesting interviews after the race. Froome was acknowledged by his colleagues as a real team player - not the conclusion most of us drew last year. Best stage so far, as it was always going to be.

I disagree ever so sightly in that I think Quintana had exactly the right idea, what he needed though was for some of the other GC contenders to roll the dice and try and go with him. If two or three of them had gone up the road together they would have had a much better chance of forcing an early response from Porte and Froome. They have to be brave and try to take Sky out of their comfort zone early, but lone attacks wont do that, co-operation has to be the name of the game for the rest.

Fair point, Shands. Now that the main GC contenders have been found wanting it will be interesting to see how the other teams try to work together to confound Sky. It'll be like the Olympic road race last year.

51 seconds behind. He did the job he had to which was pacesetting and it went right on plan. I like Porte, he looks a good prospect and a future team leader though maybe not with Sky. GC is taking shape now.
 
This could be a very very bad day for Froome, surrounded by riders prepared to work him over and three whole climbs to go.
