Tourists

In my eyes, everyone is welcome at this great club we support.
To ensure the club keeps going in the right direction, the thing we need is an increase in awareness of the brand that is MCFC. We need to reach out to all parts of the globe and within the UK.

Thats the only way we will grow and gain the success the owners of the club want.

your right, but I hate this word

Some people may say that, but think outside of just what happens on the pitch . all clubs are businesses - and marketed as brands. We are a brand and hopefully will be a very succesful global brand (Football team)

I think its obvious what Bluebannana is trying to say. As we become a bigger "brand" the costs will increase. This means that our previously working class demographic will become more middle class. It will end up like the swamp, funnily enough, the thing we have been chastising them for years about. Oh, and when it goes pear shaped, ( as has happened to every team in history ) and we fall back to our "core" support, they will have gone. ( PS. I dont care who fills our seats if they would have been empty ) ;)
Look back at Bluebannana's posts in this thread. It's clear that he seems to think that "Asian" generally equals "tourist". As an Asian, I resent this racist stereotyping.

(In any case, a genuine "tourist" is highly unlikely to buy a season ticket - why should he when he can't attend most games?)

And I doubt very much whether the fanbase at OT today is markedly different from what it was 15 years ago - the ManU hype has been going on much longer than that. Unless Bluebannana is such a regular attender at games at OT that he knows different.

As for "working class", "middle class", the whole demographic of society is changing anyway. There's no more virtue in being "working class" than any other class - unless you believe in various Marxist type ideologies.

Where have I been racist stereotyping?

Where have I said that asians equal tourists anywhere at all, I was asking someone if they meant far eastern people because someone had said about there being japanese people in the south stand, just a simple question ? how badly can you take something.

And yes uniteds fanbase is different most of them were locals twenty/twenty five years ago, now a lot of them come on trains and coaches from london, which didnt used to happen
From your post on page 3 of this thread - "a lot of them are tourists though ? doubt they were there when we were shit".

You clearly do assume that most Asian looking people must be tourists. And you don't like them.

I notice that concerning united fans, your "15 years ago" has now changed to 20/25 years ago.

And incidentally, I do know who Colin Bell was - and Mike Summerbee, Neil Young, Francis Lee, Tony Book (a personal favourite of mine), etc.etc. were. Indeed, even though I wasn't a City fan, I saw tham play quite often, and was very happy when that wonderful team won the old and proper first division Championship in 1968.

So what if I said that it doesnt mean Im racist, bloody hell. 15 years 25 years doesnt really matter, there was a change in their fanbase, you cant really argue that

It was more of a statement that there are a lot of glory hunting fans who are asian, but there are also a lot of white, blue, green and red fans that are aswell, stop over reacting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was 'touring' in 111 last night, was a laugh, first game in one of the singing sections.

Hope my presence didn't offend the OP.

So what? They paid their money to be there and also added to the attendance. Win Win for the club. As long as the so called "Tourists" don't push normal match going fans out who have been with us through thick and thin, i don't have a problem with it.

Was good to see 150 Ajax fans taking an interest in watching us too.

Having lived for over 60 years in this country, and constantly coming across the "Asian=tourist=glory-hunting rag type etc.etc." belief in this forum, I don't apologise for "over-reacting". If you had experienced what I have - you might actually begin to understand.

At the age of 66, I am slightly tired of having it being constantly implied that people such as myself have no place in the Etihad stadium, City of Manchester, England, UK, Europe etc., often by people who have actually far less knowledge and appreciation of the history of Man.City, English football, British history in general, etc. than I have.

I apologise for singling you out personally, but your comments aren't clearly outside the sort of unthinking xenophobia which has made life rather less pleasant for me in this otherwise great and admirable country, of which I am proud to be a citizen.

More success will mean higher prices which will mean some fans are left behind and newer fans will replace them. There is an economic force at play. For example let's say we win the premier league and the europa too....what are the price hikes likely to be for next season?....this season for me has been a stretch financially with a season card and cup scheme membership...if the basic seasoncard goes up by too much next year it'll cause me a problem....maybe I can keep the SC but I might have to cherry pick cup games...losing out on the option for final tickets maybe....if you don't have the money, you don't have the same choice. If, God forbid I had to eventually give up my SC for financial reasons then I am sure by then there will be a list of people waiting to come and watch City...what colour they are or where they are from matters not. If I get priced out it won't stop me supporting City though.
