Toys Of Christmas Past

We were poor when I was a kid, so one year my Mum took my scalextric set (which admittedly I hadn't used in years) to the 2nd hand shop and got a few quid for it. I was completely devastated, and I still pull her leg about it 50 years later.

It was the 1st present my (now) wife bought for me 25 years later.

Tank command was another i remember very fondly.

I always got a 'Compendium of Games' - full of shite like blow football, bingo and tiddlywinks. Fucking minted, we were....

I dreamed of getting a Jonny Seven but never did. There were four of us kids and it was also my brother's birthday on Christmas Day so, quite rightly, he was the priority present-wise. What I did get was Subbuteo Angling which was actually a bit shit. Never a Christmas went by, though, when we didn't get a football each which we had to run outside and play with immediately.
Thats a shame but before you think I lead a privileged childhood, my mum knitted me a batman outfit and made me wear it! Scarred me for life.

If only I'd have kept those Dinky cars in the boxes and not played with 'em!!

My brother did. And his Airfix 00 scale soldiers, and those cards you used to get with a pink rectangle of bubble gum, Man from Uncle, Mars Attacks, American Civil War etc. He has rooms full of the stuff which we drag out every now and then to get nostalgic over. The only thing even he didn't keep was plastic Beatles wigs and jigsaws we got onE Christmas !
