Anyone remember 5 years ago? 10 people arrested as a result of a "plot" to release biological weapons at a Rags v Scousers game? All done in a blaze of publicity yet no charges subsequently. I'm very cynical about all this stuff (particularly as this is the most cynical government we've probably ever had).

Don't forget that it's not long ago that Pakistan was accused over the Mumbai massacres and also there was the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore. Just seems like it's a way of putting more pressure on Pakistan but also diverting our attention from domestic issues. Pound to a penny they won't find much and they'll all be quietly shipped back to Pakistan.

Gotta agree with your opinion there mate. I also recall an incident when the tanks rolled up to Heathrow for a couple of days as we were told of an impending surface to air missile attack against a passenger plane. I think that was all bollocks as well at the time. The war of words between us and Pakistan has started with them saying we need to do more to ensure correct procedures are used when checking the status of student visas.

Think back the IRA campaign and we never had any kind of event like this despite whatever intelligence information we had. It was never a big full scale news event like this prior to an impending attack. I know back then sometimes our intelligence was good. Probably all government propaganda like the quote said above.

Disregarding the whos who or might be thing, I have a simple question:

Why? What for? What is the intention of these so called terrorists?

What is their cause/agenda/delusion/belief?

What are they hoping for?


What do they want?


Because it seems to methere is no reason behind this. There are thousands of people killed every single month around the world in the name of Jihad or whatever. Does anybody know why?

bin laden in his many tapes/videos/speeches made it pretty clear what it was all about. probably the big one is the american military presence in saudi arabia (due to the first gulf war) and their allies the saudi royal family. of coruse theres also the hating of israel. plus some other stuff about 'bad muslims' in the middle east - interestingly bin laden hated sadam hussein and shortly before 9/11 iran had moved troops to the border of taliban controlled afghanistan because relations between the two were seriously on the brink.

not so sure about aims of the 7/7 bombers, premusably if they were inspired by bin laden they would want the same thing. also i remember from that infamous tape they made it also being about avenging the deaths of muslims at the hands of the british military.

Just seen this on the BBC website:

Police are not thought to have recovered any explosive devices during their searches. BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner said his understanding was that the alleged plot had been at the "aspirational, not operational" stage.

So they are already retreating from the position a few days ago that this attack was "imminent" to "it was aspirational" (i.e. they might have been thinking about it).

Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Peter Fahy has insisted that no threat to a specific location has been found. He dismissed reports that Old Trafford or the Trafford Centre were targets as 'speculation'.

I can tell you all now, I work at the TC and anyone else that was there on Monday morning experienced difficulty getting into the Centre or was locked onto the Malls !! The official misinformation was that Armed Robbers had been chased from Teeside and tried to hide out and blend in with the masses at the TC !! Make your own mind up who they were !!
I for one will not let these people affect my life or livelihood and will carry on as usual !!

So what's so bad about wanting a ugly fuckin mostrosity of a buildung, that is a temple to consumer greed, razed to the ground.
And no, i'm not being selective. I can think if several others that are a blot on the landscape.
You wanna wind your neck in tosspot and stop having a hissy fit about nothing.

I'm with Stonerblue on the knocking down of the Traffic Centre, it's a fucking architectural carbuncle. Though I doubt the 'terrorists' wanted to blow it up anyway. As one poster said on here a while back "the Trafford Centre looks like a disco-mosque." There's another building in Trafford that needs blowing up first.

I also think that half the mosques in Manchester want flattening too. How the fuck do you get "a big building with a massive fucking golden dome" through planning permission? My next door neighbour wasn't even allowed to build a new porch.

Two points here first of all the trafford centre is a shit hole and an eye sore. I have never been impressed by it. Manchester should have a far better centre than that mess. Secondly, the police have done a fantastic job stopping these ragheads from attacking our country. However, one day sooner or later they will succeed and blow something up because you cannot stop them all of the time. We learned that when we were fighting the IRA. But the police have done extremely well this time so credit where credit is due.
