Trailer Time...

I think Gunn wants to lighten the tone up for comedic purposes as well as bring a hopeful tone to the proceedings.

I think he's quite a comic book nerd.
Trouble is will this sell it the public the silver age is over 50 years ago, kids these days have grown up with different iterations, most silver age comic book readers are in their late 50/60s and it’s certainly not appealing to me. Maybe it might be a lighter take after the dark Snyderverse which I loved, but it looks along the lines of Superman 3 for me.

It's a good question as to whether the film will translate to the younger watchers. Interestingly enough, the whole 'symbol of hope' thing might be a beacon of light in the darker tones of comic book adaptation now.

As you know, I loved the dark tones of the Snyderverse too, but the more I think about the trailer, the more I've put aside the Cavill version in my head. Why? Because it's reawakening the comic books of yesteryear to me when I had a sense of immersion and enjoyment.

The only thing I hope for is the Gunn makes 'Supes' a global citizen rather than a US protector who happens to do stuff here and there.
