To: The FA
Subject: Cristiano Ronaldo violent conduct
At 54:47 of Manchester United's match against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, February 20, 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo intentionally kicked the back of an opposing player's leg after a play. The ball was gone, and there was no other intent other than to kick the opposing player. The FA recently punished Shaun Wright-Phillips with a three-match ban for a similar play -- although in that case the player actually was provoked with two fouls that resulted in a red card for the opposing player. If the FA is to maintain any reasonable claim to impartiality, Cristiano Ronaldo absolutely must receive the same exact treatment -- a violent conduct charge and accompanying three-match ban. Failure to do so will expose the FA an inequitable in its treatment of players and will bolster the arguments of those who claim the FA give favorable treatment to traditionally strong clubs like Manchester United.
