Man City's response to 'threat' of Barcelona-style transfer ban over Myles Beerman deal
FIFA are looking into Maltese starlet Myles Beerman's move from Floriana to Manchester City
Manchester City do not fear a Barcelona-style transfer ban - despite FIFA investigating the transfer of Maltese starlet Myles Beerman.
The 17-year-old’s move from Floriana to the Etihad is being reviewed by football’s world governing body, with claims that it could breach rules concerning the transfer of underage players.
But City sources are adamant the deal was completely above board and that Beerman was not registered before reaching the eligible age limit.
Article 19 of FIFA regulations states: “International transfers of players are only permitted if the player is over the age of 18.”
Beerman is still only 17 and has been at City since 2014.
There are exceptions for players between the age of 16-18 if the move takes place within the EU and further stipulations are met.
Barcelona received a transfer embargo in 2014 after being found guilty of signing minors.
They were banned from making any signings for two whole windows.
Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are facing similar sanctions, which are currently under appeal.
FIFA have reportedly asked Floriana and the Maltese Football Federation for documentation relating to Beerman’s time at the club.
In response City sources claim such checks are standard procedure.
