Treble winners “you’ll never sing that”

Totally agree. Much prefer it when we do curve ball stuff, it's far more City. We're proud of who we are, but we do self-deprecating stuff like no other fan base that I know of. There were bananas, even in Istanbul!
I'd like it if we sang back to them, “You'll never sing that, you'll never sing that, Full Members Cup, you'll never sing that”.

Edit: got confused. We never won the Full Members. Runners up against Chelsea (still angry about it). What was that weirdo trophy that we won? Something to do with windshields…
we never won the auto windscreens either, we went out in only game we played at Maine Road in 2-1 loss to Mansfield, Lee Peacock scored both for them

Yep. Incredible, really. Mansfield Town. At Maine Road!
We did win something, though. What was it?
(Oh we got the UEFA fairplay ranking, they'll never take that away from us…)

If the figures on here are to be believed, there was a shade over three thousand in the entire ground! Anyone who was there, respect. You must have really been at a loose end that evening…

If you look at who United actually had to play on their way to winning at Wembley (Wembley! even more of a home game then that it is now) in ’68, it's really not all that. Benfica themselves were no longer at their best. They only had Eusebio at world level. Real Madrid was the genuinely tough one, and they scraped that.

The European Cup was much the same as the Champions League in terms of difficulty. Sometimes you'd have a favourable draw and other times less so. Liverpool's route to the final last season was a piece of piss in comparison to Real's. Ours way a lot more difficult than Inter's this time around. But if it was easy to win back then, we might have made it a lot further than we did the one season we played in it back in the 60's! Of the games we've lost in recent seasons we've been unlucky in a couple but getting knocked out by Spurs, Lyon and Monaco in particular considering our quality is piss poor considering how good we've been in England by comparison.

I truly think the struggles in Europe are over following that first win. The weight of expectation is lifted and we'll be much more relaxed and dominant as we've been domestically. I could seriously see us pick up another couple in short succession now. Next season is a great opportunity for us to go and do it back to back.

Ha ha how childish were those cups? From what I remember Chelsea brought loads of them recently. Always seemed ironic to me how vociferous the Villa chants were from a club that has won relatively little over the years!
They've won one league title in over 110 years mate, not an FA cup since the mid 50's, their main successes were in the late 1800's , when there was only 16 teams in the league , when teams like Bury, Darwen and even Glossop North End graced the top division. They've lived off that European Cup win for the past 100 years.
