Tribute bands

I've always quite fancied the idea of playing in a tribute band, but as most of my mates have different tastes in music to me I was wondering how it's done. Do people put ads out? Or do they meet people at gigs of a particular band?

I sing in Free/Bad Company tribute band("Free's Company", not the one on youtube!) I was asked to do it by a festival organiser and recruited muso mates to play the other parts, it's a good laugh and bloody good money!

I've seen adverts asking for players but I think most of them get together out of a love for the band or a physical/vocal resemblance to one or more of the members.

You got someone in mind that you want pay tribute to? Might be able to help you get some gigs if you're serious.
