Tribute to the Kippax

If i recall correctly the rebuild was around the time we were in the lower leagues and must have had a big hit on the numbers. I remember sitting in the 'new kippax' when it was half built! How did that work?

That flag was a death trap. If you were under it when it came down you were fked! Very dangerous - but we all laughed.

Pretty sure we were in the PL. it was around 94ish when we had Walsh and Uwe up front. Remember watching the 5-2 v spurs from my relocated seat in the north stand

Didn’t they open the lower tier first and then build the rest around it

Due to this thread I've been thinking of Maine road alot today. It wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing stadium. 4 completely different quirky stands built with zero symmetry , talk about bad Feng Shui. And then there was the reputed curse of an old gypsy woman hanging over the place.
It had an endearing character that only us blues would appreciate. I loved the place.

A very good read. Middlesbrough League Cup semi was amazing for atmosphere on the Kippax. Lots of special memories on my home from home.
I travelled down from Scotland for that game as was in the Royal Navy
Had to be back on board for 5am next morning as ship was due to set sail on exercises only just made it back but was happy as fuck

I've mentioned this before, but I once had a mouseburger served to me from one of the concessions. Didn't buy it, though.

I was working in Bedford in the late 80s, and was watching "A Question of Sport" in the pub next to the Charlie Wells' brewery, having had my tea there.
The question came up "where would you be if you were standing here?" with one of the answers being "The Kippax".
Nobody in the pub knew the answer, so I got out my Season Ticket book, showing "Kippax Street Stand".
Nice to know the answer once in a while!

Loved the article, loved the Kippax. Some great memories, but the typical City occasions were the most iconic, they just summed the club up. Anyone remember Shrewsbury in the cup?(the first time) Drew in the pouring rain on a mud heap, lost the replay of course. Losing to Derby as Franny scored. "Look at his face, just look at his face" - another title chance thrown away. Was it Bobby Kennedy who scored with an accidental 20 yard header against Bolton? Dont mention the brilliant defensive display as QPR consigned us to div 3.......and so many more, at the theatre of base comedy.
