Tribute to the Kippax

I had a very interesting chat with the guy, he said the kippax was basically a big pile of rubble with a layer of concrete on top. There was really nothing to it other than the tunnels. He reckons it must have just been a muddy bank at some point that they just kept throwing hardcore on and then concreting the terrace on top.

I can believe that as well. But still, Maine road is there in my mind's eye in all it's magnificent squalor that I was more fond of than the magnificent splendor of the Etihad and campus.

In our house it's still only ok for a man to cry when his dog dies.
Did you see that bloody champ's league final? More tears than a disaster special of Eastenders.
Jessies.

My first memory of Maine road and the kippax is vague. I must of been 12/13 years old. Early nineties we played Norwich in the PL. I remember their bright yellow kit but not much about the game. I remember being stood on the kippax though. The fencing at the front of the stand with intermittent gates. The chest high rails and concrete steps. How small the pitch looked compared to Seeing it on TV. There’s one memory that sticks, I do not think it was the same game and it was a brief moment but I’d never seen anything like it live. David Rocaslte on the right wing conjured up some kind of Johan Cruyff moment, to me it was a real wow moment. I remember thinking I can’t wait to watch that again and again. I loved Maine road, Even though I didn’t see us win there very often, my favourite games were against Birmingham City, we seemed to always win.

Pretty sure it was Barnsley when Rocky did that move and possibly the day Franny took over, although I do remember playing Ipswich in red/white kits around that period seems a lifetime away now.

She lives round the corner from me.
Fucking screwball that one.
I see her in the shop and walk her back what with her being blind as a mole these days.
She invites me in for a brew .
I always decline.

She is one of the most loyal blues there is.

A character there is no doubt.
