its part of the uk so the flag should fly 7 days a week 52 weeks of the year another brilliant idea from the crackpots above if the governments/councils of this country focused on running the country rather than winding us all up with there crackpot ideas it would be a better place for all

That's the point though..... some members of the community don't see it as part of the UK / don't think it should be part of the UK / don't want it to be part of the UK.
It's part of the legacy of the Empire, in the same way the Spanish would like Gibralter back and the Argentinians think that the Malvinas come under their soverenty.
And when the Majority vote to leave the United Kingdom or vote not to be crown dependencies i guess they will be allowed to leave and have someone else's flag flown over them but until then in a democracy the wishes of the many and all that.

Ahhhh.... the majority..... the majority being of non indigenous decent with an affinity to the crown...... well that's all right then.

And of course you know this. All the majority of course and their ancestory.
And you also know the minority. All the minority and their ancestory. And from these facts you can tell 'the majority being of non indigenous decent' and all have an affinity to the crown'. Remarkable.

I live in Manchester. It's part of the UK. The Union flag does not fly 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year here. I'm not sure Buckingham Palace flies the flag 7 days a week , 52 weeks a year.

Why should anywhere else be any different?

What makes Belfast so fucking precious and special that it should fly a flag 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year?

Yes, I did a survey 3 years back, asked every single person in Belfast ;)
I am indeed remarkable :)

The democratic decision not to fly the flag everyday does not seem to have gone down well.

Democracy is not about putting everything to the public vote. Society would be completely swamped with referendums if it were. The population elected the politicians. If the politicians make decisions the population doesn't like, you can protest if you like, but the only way to change such decisions in a democratic society is to vote for different politicians next time around.

It is not hard to understand. But it is fundamental to a civilised society.
