I’ve been in the “wrong” end once in my life (at West Ham) and I’d never do it again as I couldn’t enjoy the day. We lost and I was conscious of being City all the way through.
The rags are the ultimate love hate club and only one of their odious fans celebrates a goal in our section. It’s so disrespectful to do it.
Hey, snap! It was years ago, in the seventies, when the West Ham “firm” were decidedly active. I went in through the wrong turnstile and I think I must have found myself right in the middle of them. Wasn't wearing my colours (I wasn't
that stupid) but I had to keep my lip buttoned up when we scored, and sort of smile sickly when they scored. As I remember it, we won the match. But I can't say it was at all agreeable.
Re. the OP and the following post from
@Scaley. If the fan involved really
was a complete tourist, i.e. from another country, maybe another continent, they could have been making an understandable mistake, up to a point. I think there are countries where it's sort of tolerated. May be wrong, but I don't think you get into fisticuffs in the States if you're at a baseball or American football match and you do that. If you were in Italy, by contrast, and it was Inter against Juve or Inter against A.C., you'd be lucky to get out with life and limb intact.
It's culturally very variable.
