Truck Runs into Crowd in Nice

...give up SOME freedoms....

and vehemently disagree is one thing. Being called all sorts is another.

I've not read the rest of the thread so apologies if this is already covered, but what freedoms can we give up that will stop this? and Paris?

This seems to be a loaner, who no matter what you do you wont stop. Paris was arranged on open non encrypted text messages so were readily readable to the authorities but were missed.

Do you mean the members of the Polish Airforce that fled to Britain prior to playing a major part of the Battle of Britain?

I'm pretty sure he meant the millions of resistance fighters that stayed in their home lands to fight oppression

Pedestrian anti terrorist action is indeed required, a trial should start in Norwich, the answer to this problem is that simple, call in Alan Partridge

Banning religion, giving up human rights, blaming Blair, house to house searches, making Saddam a martyr and asking Steve coogan to head up NATO
I'm guessing from that stupid response that you think we should just shrug our shoulders and let the terrorists get on with it rather than take some sensible measures that might make it a bit harder for them to kill large numbers of people.

I find myself getting angry at the "pray for nice" stuff, it does nothing, in fact it feels a bit shallow, not insincere but empty and shallow, it means nothing and for some reason i find it rather annoying.

Can we put the politics in another thread and just remember the victims in this one?

It's a good debate that maybe deserving of its own status.

I usually ignore it as its grief narcissism in my head. Maybe for a minority it's a way of showing support? I'd still say 90% of them are look at me posts.

President Hollande will be on his way out very soon.
He's been a complete disaster for the French.
He may well now wish to reflect on his willingness to support, and promote the US's and Gulf States policy of regime change in Syria.
A great pity he chose to put Washingtons interests ahead of France's interests. Dangerous and counter productive.
Regretablly there will be no respite for the French, since Washingtons man Sarkozy (of Libya fame) will be installed at the next French elections.
That will of course mean, one thing : more slaughter.

If after many repeated threads on this subject you have an answer I'm all ears

Just reported that there are children injured in hospital and also in police stations who have yet to be claimed by parents. So sad

Of course I haven't got an answer to solve everything, but it's not rocket science to suggest that it's a good idea to make it more difficult for large vehicles to be in the same area as large crowds. A bit of police tape and a road closed sign isn't much of a deterrent.
