TV detector vans

I didnt have one for 8 years before i
emigrated.
About year 6 i had 2 knocks on the door about 3 /4 months apart. Told them i worked abroad a lot and didnt have a TV. Both asked if they could come in and check. I asked both if I was obligated to let them in and both replied I was not. Then denied both of them access into the house and saw them on their way.
Actually the 2nd time it was a bloke and a woman

We are still waiting for our enforcement visit 40 years later but no worries as Boris will sort the goons out even if he's being coy in the clip below and just like me I have a sneaky suspicion he doesn't like them an awful lot. Anyway everyone knows you don't have to get a license as it's totally unenforceable unless you let one of those nice field agents in for a brew and a Kipling. Capita agents are on £10 an hour with an incentivized capped bonus of £5 for every single mum they catch and coerce into signing a TVL178 record of Interview (self incrimination form) which is the primary and only means of proving the guilt of people prosecuted by Crapitas BBC TV Licensing for alleged licence evasion. . I know because it was advertised on Indeed job website and it said you must be outgoing and like meeting people. Good grief ! Hello mrs shufflebottom my names Bob and I am from tv licensing and is now a good time to pop in and inspect your equipment........ Young man young man !

In this day and age nobody should be forced to subsist a corporation or company on fear of prosecution. If ever they decide to self fund they will be truly fooked and the wastrels sat at the top of the money tree proper know it. Good value some folk espouse and cry out well lets see if joe public thinks so if they go pay by view. Starve to death they fooking will. That is all:

The offence is actually owning a TV, even if you don't have an aerial, when I bought a cheap TV from argos they asked for my name and address for the guarantee, when I didn't give it they admitted they are required by law to inform the licensing authority. They have no right to enter your house though, that's why for years my mother only bought a monochrome license despite having two colour tvs.

oh god not this red herring again!
Owning a tv without a licence is NOT an offence.
You can own a tv to play dvds , computer games etc without a licence with impunity.

A know several people whove written off to say they dont watch live broadcast tv. If you dont, you then don't need a licence and thats all perfectly legitimate. Netflix, amazon, YouTube etc will give you more tv content than you could ever hope to watch. You can even watch bbc iplayer quite legally so long as you only watch it on catch up

wrong.
IPlayer is now covered by license laws.

wrong.
IPlayer is now covered by license laws.

I was wondering about that too. I've never heard of it only applying to watching live TV. My understanding was that the device only has to be capable of broadcasting it.

If it's true, that you only need one for watching live TV the easiest workaround is to use a box that will pause it, even for a couple of seconds, then it's not live innit.

Its cheap for what it is. Just pay it. I dont like Jonathan Ross or Graham Norton at all but everything else I get more than makes up for it for about 15 quid a month or whatever it is. Its worth that to me just to avoid a row on my doorstep. My house is a bastion of peacefulness and that's why I like it here. Cant be arsed rowing with a bloke about a fucking TV licence, my life is too short for that shit. Just have a telly licence.
