TV detector vans

Years ago lived in rented accommodation and risked not getting a licence. About 9 one evening heard the letter box click and there was a letter demanding payment. Stuck head out of the door and no van or anyone in sight. They found out somehow.

Generic letter just ignore it

of course they will know which addresses do not have licenses.
They just tick off licenses registered against the addresses of all uk properties.
But so what?

this whole cyclical argument is akin to trying to claim that any men who haven’t been castrated must ipso facto be rapists.
It really is that stupid.

A girl who lives near me was threatened with prosecution because she did not have a TV licence for her 2nd home Said she needed a licence for each property she owned.. Can you imagine the shock when she invited the press to her house as it was still a building site with no electricity as yet. The Northern Echo printed the story and she received an apology

even if the house were fully finished she wouldn’t need a license unless it was equipped with a tv on which she viewed live broadcasts.

It can be amusing to watch the videos uploaded to youtube of people answering their door to Capita salesmen (which I believe is what they actually are) and telling them that "They know the law" and "they feel harassed by them being at their door" when anyone with a modicum of sense just doesn't entertain the knobsacks, trying to look hard with their clipboard lol fuck off XD.

Those YT vids are very amusing to watch - so are some of the bailiff's ones where they turn up with photocopied unsigned court documents and are sent packing by the Police - idiots who think they ARE the law not that they know it!

Simplest way to deal with them is not to speak to them. Do not answer questions then they have no info to work with - you are under no obligation to answer questions from anyone except a Police Officer and even then only in relation to a specific offence.

It seems we don't have any current or former detector van drivers on here, or maybe they are bound by secrecy?

Having no TV licence isn't a criminal offence, I'm sure
And the people who work as enforcers have no power, if they turn up at your door you can tell them to toddle

In 2012 200,000 people were prosecuted and 50 received jail sentences for not having a tv license!
