Log on to see an ad asking people to renew their tv license in every language known to mankind apart from our own.

A quick look on the web and you see reports of £Millions and I do mean millions being spent every year by virtually every agency, service. council, police force etc on translators.

This is Great Britain and in a time of so much austerity and cut backs, its a scandal imo.

Learn English if you come to live and work here.

Rant over!

If it's a noun then it's a licence not a license.

Fucking expats can't even speak English...

No bad with Afrikaans. can certainly understand most conversations if not fluent when speaking.

If you're English you know full well you need a TV license. It's not done in most parts of the world so it makes sense to advertise it to recent immigrants who don't speak the language yet doesn't it?

I wouldn't go that far. Of course, people should make an effort to pick up the lingo once they settle somewhere, but it's a two-way street. There are millions of English-speaking expats who can't speak the native tongue of the countries they now call home. Life would be much more dull if you had to be fluent in the language before moving somewhere.

Indeed. I doubt those countries spend millions in translating everything into different languages though.
