TV License

I had a visit yesterday but I wasn't in. I've moved to a new flat and it didn't take them long.

I have already changed my address with them online so let them waste their petrol and shoe leather.

Just had the date and weirdly the time 18.44pm!

Said they will call back but also had a form attached to sign up for it.

I hardly ever watch TV so it's very annoying.

About 10 years ago, I ignored the warning letters for months, one Tuesday pm, some cheery little man knocked on the dorr, I opened it and he showed his badge- TV was opposite the door and was on ! Got a £99.00 fine and had to sign up for a license on the spot by Direct Debit. Never paid the fine and cancelled DD two months later.

but if he didnt see the tv you could just say "where is your warrant" and send the little cheery fucker on his way?? is that right??

The way that people get convicted is either by letting the BBC staff see or hear the TV from outside the house or by making excuses about why thay haven't got a licence, thereby effectively confessing that they should have one.

So, if you aren't a complete idiot you can ignore the BBC's licence fee staff and anything they say or do.

And remember you can always stop the letters and remove the BBC staff's right to come on to your property by sending the appropriate letters alleging harrassment and removing their right to enter your property's grounds. The BBC's licence fee staff have no more rights than a door to door salesman to tell you what to do about anything.

Sorts out any myths

Unfortunately far from sorting out the myths it perpetuates one.

The myth that you need a TV licence to use a TV.
You don't.

You only need a TV licence if you watch TV as it is broadcast.
You do not need one to watch DVDs, play games or watch catch up services like BBC iPlayer, Channel 4 on demand, Joost etc.

Here is the BBC site about it.
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2008/01/iplayer_does_not_require_a_tv_1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/ ... _tv_1.html</a>

It does say that about DVD's, Gaming or using as PC monitor-ie you don't need one, the site hasn't been updated since the advent of iPlayer etc-but yes you are quite right

Lads. You have no obligation to tell them fuck all, thats not your job, its theirs.

If they show up, dont let em in. If they show up with a warrent, you'll have too, if the tvis not connected to an aerial or is not recieving live tv then theres fuck all they can do.

They send those letters out in their thousands. Ive had two, final warnings and all this bollocks, goes in the bin. I dont have a TV and have better things to do than reply to threatening letters that have no real power. The one time I did phone up I was told to disregard it.

Also, its LIVE TV only, Iplayer is not live.

... and just remind us what Australian television has given to the canon of world culture......

yeah quit exporting shit like neighbours and home and away

When they spot your address doesn't have a licence the BBC will send out letters with 'Immediate Action Required' printed on the envelope. This is a lie. You are not legally required to do anything.
