I’ve put loads of tv brackets up (it got easier when plasma’s gave way for LCD/LED...do love my old plasma mind).
If you can’t get the bracket to hit the battens behind the plasterboard (too wide apart) then I would cut a section of plywood (15mm) - screw that to the battens then the bracket screwed into that. If you cut it the right size you can hide it behind the TV (so you can’t see it) then paint the same colour as your wall.
Failing that, chop out the plasterboard and fix either more battens or screw a piece of ply directly onto the wall then re plasterboard board it.
Not sure I’d be entirely happy hanging onto hollow plasterboard (even with the specialist screws above) but that’s just me!
