TV Series

@Henkeman I opted out a bit early into it despite liking several elements, I'm not a militant purist for the story but Rodenberry would've never been ok with the violent shift in star fleet. Shame really

No, but his insistence and inflexibility on that is what made TNG so bloody boring.

First series of Discovery I didn't like so much because of all the contradictions, though I did note their insistence that they would resolve them, so stuck with it. And they are doing. I think they fired the showrunners who started it?

The implication being that unless there's violence it's boring? That's merely appealing to the LCD. Story, it's everything and what made the Star Trek universe appealing is the imagination IMO, not the violence

Given the era,and the fractious elements of such,Discovery wouldn't be working as it is if the violence and the chaos was absent from the storylines - It's necessary to create the 'reality' of the period and set the tone for the peace treaties that exist in the future.I think the series has exceeded expectation and has been reimagined a tired franchise superbly.

Please tell me if it's good, I want to watch a western series, Longmire didn't excite me, it's now a toss up between Yellowstone and Hell on Wheels
I like Yellowstone so far - it's very watchable with a plausible plot line and excellent acting throughout. It is, however, a bit depressing - I feel particularly sad for the daughter of the family - you'll see why if you watch the first few episodes.

All-in-all though - I like the series and am very glad I purchased the entire first season. It's my favorite viewing atm.

Cheers. I've watched 2 Hell on Wheels so far, very gritty, violent at times. Plot seems a tad cheesy so far though. Might swap to Yellowstone.

Ages back when it started I was pretty critical of Star Trek Discovery - especially how they played fast and loose with established canon in obvious ways. Well, they've dragged that back brilliantly, and you can see how the contradictions are going to be resolved.

And what a joy Captain Pike's portrayal has been too.

Started out being annoyed with the series, now really rather enjoying it.

I'm so invested in this show!

I note the inconsistencies, but it still allows me to hitch the ride with them.

Now the chubby girl ('Tilly'?) is more of a side note, it's refocused the story arc and I'm enjoying it more.

And yes, the 'Pike' portrayal is spot on.

Almost a 'slapdash, swashbuckling debonair' theme about him, but nowhere near as hammy as 'Kirk' ever was! LOL!
