TV Series

Just finished The Outsider after seeing some recommendations in here and the Top 100 thread. Not normally my kind of thing but it was decent and had some great performances, a really strong cast and with adaptation writing from Stephen King’s original novel by the brilliant Richard Price and Dennis Lehane. But boy was it slow. 10 episodes that could easily have been boiled down to six.
I'd say even less mate but maybe that's down to my short span of attention ;-).

Does seem to be the blue-print though for many series now, I've come to the conclusion I'm better off waiting and just binge watching them otherwise I'd lose interest with them otherwise.

Anybody seen Black Spot on Netflix?

Only 4 episodes into the 1st series, but this is terrific so far. French series set in the town of Villefranche in a remote forested area. Very Twin Peaks-ish, but the female lead also gives it a Bridge/Killing vibe. Lots going on - new DA arrives to investigate the six-times national average death rate and there's a different case each week, but it all links back to a "something's wrong deep in the woods" kind of thing and there are constant flashbacks to something the police chief suffered 20 years ago.

Throw in some top-notch cinematography, lots of shots of misty mountains and forests and a spooky banjo-driven soundtrack and it's got me hooked.

Not seen this but the description put me in mind of the Adamsberg novels by Fred Vargas which have a vaguely supernatural bent, if you enjoy reading you might like them

Yes, I'm big reader and those novels sound right up my street, cheers.

Loved the Adamsberg books. Some of them have also been adapted into TV Movies that are worth a watch too if you can find them.

Might line this up - sounds intriguing.

Just finished the Terror.
Flawed perhaps and often had that sheen of TV made rather than movie but cannot fault it’s scope & ambition.
Few odd, surreal and dark moments with a queasy score.
Will dig the book out but what a story without all the other elements...cannot imagine what it would’ve been like.

Jared Harris in both series.
