TV Series

Just watched the HBO Billy Joel Documentary "As it Goes" which is on Sky Documentaries - I'd highly recommend it. An excellent run through his life on/off the stage with the man himself, colleagues, ex-wives - it's all there no holds barred.
I watched it over the weekend it surprised me how many songs i know ps well worth a watch.

Alien earth is so disappointing. It's like an Alien film but for teenagers. Hope it gets better but not holding out. Another thing Disney has got it's mits on and cocked up.

Sooo... Capturing the "Alien: Romulus" audience? It could have been way worse (and still might get there) than it was.

Agreed, Hollyoaks in space. In similar vein to the risible Alien Romulus. Had high hopes for it, what with noah Hawley directing (love the Fargo TV series) and Ridley Scott executive producer. But it's a crock of shite. I will keep watching in the hope it gets better, and for the lack of anything else to watch currently.

Just finished The Handmiad’s Tale. Brilliant in parts. Dragged tediously on occasions. Possibly the most anti climatic final episode of any series I’ve seen.

More ups than downs though. Well worth a watch.

I’m really enjoying it, a breath of fresh air after Romulus, which actually was for teenagers “there’s sumfin in tha fookin’ wartaa” !!

if by “for teenagers” you mean topics that will certainly affect them: an Earth controlled by billionaires, the obvious affects of a climate crisis, Tech bros playing god, transhumanism, & AI, then yes!
And there’s plenty of gore & body horror for us who were teenagers in the 80s & never grew up.

So far I have really enjoyed Alien: Earth, has very much caught the atmosphere of the original film whilst bringing interesting ideas to the table. Alien Romulus was a poorly plotted best of reheated hash, very much the Hollyoaks in space.

This series brings intriguing ideas on what makes a person human, and has some very disturbing takes on the xenos. There are also other extra terrestrial organisms featured, don't let your cat watch..........

Generally the look of the series is a retro futurist one, like the first 3 films, grimy industrial, nihilistic; I think this looks much better in this universe than the gleaming minimalist Prometheus.

The opening episode is strongly reminiscent of the first film's opening, but does serve to flesh out the world building, rather than empty fan service like Romulus.

It is a dark future, with the Solar System divided in the spheres of 5 mega corporations, with people as indentured servants. It's primarily concerning one corporate team Prodigy owned by the youngest trillionaire Boy Kavalier.

A Wetland Yutani research ship has been gathering alien species for 65 years and crash-lands in Prodigy City, New Siam, the race is on to get the cargo, which has ideas of its own......

The first 2 episodes have dropped, another 6 left. So far the series has been fantastic, and just a bit gory! Hope we get a multi series arc, does feel like Easter eggs are being dropped to be explained later on.
