I sat through the whole sorry lot and then wondered to myself just why I had bothered.Unhistorical nonsense! Almost nothing in the series actually happened.
I think the only historically accurate things in the 8 hours running time are:
Edward the Confessor was very religious and had a stroke (but nothing like the timeline that happened in this series).
Harold Hardrada’s army invaded the North and Harold Godwinson went up North to fight them (with Tostwig - who was Earl of Northumbria but nothing like the timeline in this series - fought with the Norwegians).
William the Bastard’s army invaded the South and Harold Godwinson went back South to fight them.
I think that’s pretty much it. Everything else was made up. They even got the names of the women wrong. The Anglo-Saxon Morcar of Northumbria is played by a mixed race bloke and his Sister Edith (who is called Margaret in this series for some reason) is played by a woman of Sri Lankan descent.
William did not kill Harold in the Battle of Hastings. It’s said that they were nowhere near each other on the battlefield. The scene where they ended up by chance having a bath next to each other was ridiculous. They were never friends, they did not fight side-by-side protecting each other on trips to each others land… I think they only met once in reality.
The series played out in what felt like a timeline of no more than a year, but the things that did happen in the series happened over about a 12 year timeframe.
100% agree !Whoever recommended 'Dark Hearts' on here cheers...it was fcking brilliant!

A lad know used to be going out with Sheridan, II fought the law ITV X
Sheridan Smith back at her best.
She's a incredible actress and I have to admit I have a crush on her too.
Anyone watched 'Invasion'? Ive watched the first 5 episodes and cant decide if it has real promise or is just a pile of boring poop. Its a very slow burner and just doesn't seem to get going.
Season 2 was just as bad. I don't think I'll be bothering with the new seasonI tried that.
Was quite excited about it as it was right up my street. High budget, realistic sci fi.
But like you I found it very boring and gave up after season 1. Real shame.

If i met her a few times I would still be batting one out. LolA lad know used to be going out with Sheridan, I

There is a 2nd season of Chestnut Man out in february 2026.Just finished "Chestnut Man" which I had missed when it first came out. It's nowhere near as good as others, with a plot that upon reflection is rather far-fetched - but I still polished it off quickly and enjoyed it. 7/10
Just watched the last episode of Alien Earth, and in fairness, it's stayed true to it's ideals of doing the unexpected.
Special shout out to the guy playing Boy Kavalier, proper slimy arrogant non shoe wearing ****! A memorable character more loathsome than the various species of scary alien monsters. You could imagine him as a Premier League chairman.
The lead character is Wendy, a child's mind implanted into a synthetic "hot" body. I've found her a bit beige, not overly memorable apart from using a paper cutter in a novel way, a few episodes ago!
Happily married couple Arthur and Dame Sylvia, you just know bad things are going to happen to them......
Special mention to the sheep, it's proper evil!! Big up giant plant pod thing, this was your moment!
The xenos I felt, have not been filmed at their best, all too often it feels like a man in a suit. That's been a real letdown as they should always be shit scary. Also I'm not sure I like their "character development"........
It's been a good series, occasionally touching great, hope it develops more if there's a Season 2.

I liked lots of Alien Earth but thought a lot was very very lazy story telling.
It's a pity that it couldn't be proper solid. It wouldn't have taken that much.
