TV Series

I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy a TV series again, ha.

It’s ages since I’ve watched something and thought that was awesome or sod it, I’m up at 6am but I’m going to watch another episode before bed.

If I need a show to watch now I just go to stuff I’ve seen before.

I come on here and see people give reviews to new things released and they use words like excellent, amazing, brilliant and you watch them with hope and think please be good and generally it’s - Christ, it’s really not.

You know when something’s good as about 5/6 people on here all agree. Like for example - Mr Inbetween. I’m back on that for a third time.

Sky Pee me off. They release something and hammer us with adverts for like a month solid before it starts, like that new thing ‘Prisoner’. It sounds interesting and after 2 episodes I just think, I couldn’t care less what happens to these people actually. Another boring show that some might like but it’s hardly top tv. It’s English trying to be American.

Anyway, moan over but I miss the days when someone says watch this and it’s actually good and you’re excited as you have 5 seasons to get into…. Looks like that’s long gone for me.

An example I things I’ve loved for the record off top of my head:

LOST
True Detective (S1)
Breaking Bad
Walking Dead (Up to S5)
Succession
Dexter
Sopranos
Justified
Game of Thrones

So all different types of stuff. Just been a while I’ve managed to get invested in one.

There's no sci fi in that list so not sure I'll be your best source of stuff to watch, but I'll always plug The Expanse.

The Expanse - IMDB

Think its still on Prime. Fuck it, I'm watching again after I get through Stargate SG-1.

Have you watched Narcos, Narcos Mexico or Ozark? All brilliant.

Watched Monarch Season 1 and 2. Very good I thought. I've never been a big fan of Kong and Godzilla movies (other than the Japanese one a few years back) but I thought the series was a nice blend of silly melodramatics, silly science and silly monsters. There were plenty of plot holes to not think too much about but overall I'd recommend it titanly.

Hi mate. So with Sci-Fi, I need it to be sort of realistic…

My favourite film is Intersteller. Also really enjoyed The Martian and Arrival.
Where as, Battlestar Galactaca, for example is not for me. So hope you get what I mean with ‘realistic sci-fi’.

I think I’ve tried The Expanse a few years back. Maybe I should try again. Cheers for the heads up about it though.

Have you watched Narcos, Narcos Mexico or Ozark? All brilliant.

When it comes to the drug shows with cartels etc I get a little board. There’s only so many cartel v the CIA I can handle and over the years I’ve sort of gone off them.

A lot do rave about Narcos and it does come up on lists of highly rated shows so maybe I should try it, thanks.

Ozark I did like though. One of the few in the last few years I really enjoyed. Good shout for others who haven’t watched it.

Great list, add the following to your TV binge list:-

Band of Brothers - Decent
Gomorrah - Not seen
The Wire - Decent
HBO's Rome - Not seen
The Americans - Not seen though I’ve recently considered trying this.
Banshee - Decent
Deadwood - Not seen
The Killing (Forbrydelsen) - Not seen
The Bridge (Broen) - Not seen
Corleone: Il Capo de Capi - Not seen
The Shield - Recently tried. Gave up after about 5/6 episodes. Bit dated but didn’t grab me.
Vikings - Not seen
The Last Kingdom - Not seen
Black Sails - Not seen
Shogun - Considered trying this soon
Chernobyl - Yeah enjoyed it.
Dark - Tried ep1 3 times now ha. Hear this is good though. Need to try harder and stick with first 2
Das Boot (1987) - Not seen.

Thanks for the recommendations. Edited your list. Cheers

Just watched Red Alert, based on the October 7th Hamas attack, only 4 episodes, I thought it was brilliantly made, kept me gripped and I shed a few tears at the end
I love truth based dramas and, for me, this really brought home how frightening it must have been for those unfortunate souls caught up in it.

If you’re a sci fi fan you have to stick with The Expanse! For me the best sci fi series I’ve watched! There are no “fill in shows” it’s pure story driven right to the end with an end! In fact I’m going to start watching it again for the 3rd time!

The main gripe I have is that the show ending doesn't resolve all storylines and you’ll need to read the books for more closure.
I personally felt that the last 3 books were far better than the earlier ones but I can understand why it ended the way it did. It would be impossible to continue the series as they would have to factor in the time jump from the books.

Ah right books are usually always better! I never read them is probably why I say it’s the best sci fi series I’ve watched..

May I recommend 12 Monkeys to you. It's my all time favourite show along with LOST.

From is also very good. Directed by Jack Bender who directed a lot of LOST and has some recurring elements in it along with the actor who played Michael.

Agree on 12 Monkeys and From as being excellent. But Lost will forever fill me with rage for being such a waste of time.
