I suppose I see it as a commodity, overwhelmingly commercialised and marketed for global consumption. That is what the PL is about so fair enough and that's how it is. It seems to be losing its subcultural identity as this happens.
It's not a criticism, it's just the way I feel about it. As I say, it's still the derby and still great stuff, but I guess it isn't what I grew up loving, and I can't love it quite as much the way it is now.
I think that, eventually, all subcultures are robbed and commercialised and sold back as product to much larger markets.
I liken it to being able to buy a super-deluxe edition of the Sex Pistols album 40 years on for £50. Or a posh Belstaff jacket for £400. Or the return of vinyl records. The list is endless.
