I can not take it seriously when I saw city supporters left and right from our awayblock when they sing gloating things to us at the end of the game - in my eyes you have nothing what could you be proud, except a team what is bought with lot of money and win against a club which had not in the slightest the finance you had.

I prefer to loose every game against you before we “celebrate” a game on your way.

That is not meant to be mean, for me it’s the sad truth.

You can not buy the soul of football – your club sold it with every pound they invest for his idea of it.

When I first went to watch football in Germany I was really impressed. The size of the crowds, cost of tickets, facilities etc.

Since that first trip Schalke, I have been to Eintracht Frankfurt, Hamburg and Bremen and sadly what I noticed is my experience every time was exactly the same. The stadiums were configured the same, (except Bremen), the ground was located out of the town (Except Bremen), the fans sang in a choreographed way, but there was no passion, it was not a reaction to the events on the pitch, to the elation of scoring, the anger of conceding just a continuous montone. It was led by fan 'leaders' who had so little interest in the team they would barely watch the game, instead focusing on the continuation of the monotony of noise by the little kids who follow him and act on his every word.

Football is not pefect in England and for me the fan experience from the perspective of atmosphere, mentality of fans is a long way from watching City 20 years ago. The cost of tickets and the changing fanbase is the consequence of that. However I would prefer the spontaneity of english football fans everyday over the roboticness of the german supporters. Whether it be the 'Alan' chants, fake 'goal' celebrations, humour of my fellow supporters I would take that over the monotony of consistent chanting. That in itself adds to the match day experience, and can make a dull game memorable.

For the reasons statrd above I did not go to Moengengladbach but unsurprisingly I have just viewed pictures and it looks exactly the same as Schalke, Hamburg, Frankfurt and the other stadiums I have seen. Enjoy your fan experience but do not kid yourself or patronise others in the belief that your experience is better.

Oh yes who do you think will win the league in Germany this year? Exactly, it is not even Christmas and everyone already knows the answer....boring.
 
just wandering was. anyone in the crewe main stand years ago?
we scored really late and it turned out there was hundreds in there and we ended up singing bluemoon in the end.
if it had been a draw nobody would hsve been any the wiser.

Another BMG supporter here. I just wanted to share my view on the events with you. We got 3000 tickets from City for this match. A number that we easily reach on a sunday evening league match against an unattractive opponent. Here we are talking of our first CL season ever after playing the equivilent league last time around the 80s. Against one of the top English Teams in the homeland of football. We probably would have bought 10000 Tickets if City had let us. Put us sonewhere in the third floor in our own Blocks and we would have been happy. Atomsphere would have been even better and a lot less trouble. There were enough empty seats. I do not blame City nor BMG Fans. There were plenty of idiots on both sides and even more great guys. It was simply very very Bad organization and lack of knowledge on our side that away and home section are directly adjacent. 98% of us are not looking for trouble and simply want to support our Team.

Regarding how we got the tickets:
Well City did not sell to german addresses and to obviously german people showing up day before the match. But
- To dutch addresses 10 km From Mönchengladbach
- English addresses that never ordered before like the one of my colleague
- Hotels that were asked by their guests to order
Max. 6 Tickets each order so they were passed on to others.

And obviously a lot oft Tickets were sold in viagogo and so on.

General rule: if your home Fans do not fill the Stadium better give the away Team a larger number of Tickets.... They will geht Them anyway but not were you want them to be.

All this aside we still had a great time and met a lot of friendly City supporters. Hope we can come back some time.

Excellent Post Borruse. I had Brouusia fans taking the piss out of how much vinegar I was putting on my fish and chips (next to Mary Ds) and it was all harmless fun.

I have a soft spot for Broussia (even though I'm know for wearing 1860 Munich gear because it's better than our Club shop) because my cousin made his debut for us in the 1979 1-1 draw and Allan Simonsen was an amazing player!

That said , of course I enjoyed us winning (and I know you won on aggregate in 79).

Used to be my hero, loved his passion and his 2/3 goals from midfield when moved forward.

Long live Nicky Reid. What's he up to these days?
