Two more retail companies look doomed

In the local fruit and veg shop near where i lived in Amsterdam there were no tills. This was back in 2004! Not sure what it is like now though for the cashless stuff. I get the feeling it didn't pick up as much as they hoped.

I always keep 100 quid on me in cash just as a backup. The internet at my local shop is patchy at best so their card payment system goes down often enough for it to be an issue. No such issues with cash. I think until broadband is so stable you can count on it like your next breathe of air along with the banking systems having enough redundancy to stay up no matter what event takes place; cash will always have a place. At least for the next 30-40 years.
It's actually quite easy to workaround the internet issue by increasing storage on the cards.

Companies fold all the time can't really link the high st to Brexit too much it's a factor but it's been in decline for decades. It's a number of more influential factors for me, high rates/rent parking charges for town / city centers add to that the time it takes to visit the town centers now, and finally people like me who hate shopping, I only go under duress and left to my own devices would never go other than for clothes as you can make sure they fit.
The retail sector won't be around in it current guise for alot longer, I think they will create a number of viewing spaces where you view items before you buy, then shipped to your home directly.
Councils are haphazardly running around to redevelop these spaces into social areas already, I think most will be populated by apartments and restaurants before you know it.

Good post.

Brexit will be a factor, just because of uncertainty, but with the high street you're right its been in decline for ages and there are much more influential factors at play.
