Txiki Begiristain | Has left the club after 13 years (pg50)

Calafiori makes John Stones look like the fittest man in football.

Musiala, Wirtz in the summer, Zubimendi and a striker in January.

I do think one of our CB will be replaced next summer, we need some pace in there.
Yeah true, but the point was there’s players out there that would be good squad options without overspending and that 115 shouldn’t have stopped us from getting a Rodri backup or a RB.

My view is we had 2 spaces at the start of the season ,with Echeverri coming just 1,I think we have targets but decided next summer was a better time for us to make room by letting KDB, Walker, Gundogan go maybe Bernardo too and we then have 4 spaces to fill and I think we’ll spend big on at least 3 of those players. Bringing more squad players in last summer would have left little space for those bigger names which I expect to be targeted next summer.
I see you point but think the club are looking further ahead than this season. The APT and 115 cases, Pep uncertainty and they knew Txiki was planning to go plus KDB and Walker coming to a natural end ,possibly players we want long term weren’t available they are just part of that reasoning. I expect a re boot next summer.
It’s why I think Pep either goes or stays for at least 2 years more, don’t think 1 year helps anybody.

They didnt get rid , gundy hated it there and was desperate to come back here
They knew he was done, he was always in the press questioning their players, Barca have come out of this better than we have sadly.

Barca have put the young players in and look at what they are doing, so far ripping up LaLiga and doing very well in the CL.

It was a no brainer to bring him back for a year but it looks like it was a bad decision at this time.

We did not need squad options , we needed players that would come into the first team.

We signed too many squad players for a few windows.

Interesting admission from Txiki about the end of the treble season. Acknowledges that mistakes were made.

I just came across this on X.

Pretty much confirms the club were not sure to stick or twist on a few players. Incoming and departing.

Txiki deals speak for themselves over the years. Mistakes do happen and will happen again. Refreshing to hear him acknowledge this.

It would be interesting to know the players that wanted away due to playing time and if those same players feel that way now with so many injuries and underperformances?

Julian was one but who else?

Walker was one who wanted out until Pep persuaded him to stay.

Obviously Riyad

There, I told you Pep was an idiot.
Seriously though, squad planning difficult: you are dealing with 30 blokes each with his own ambitions, injuries can make a fool of your plans etc etc.
Txiki has done pretty well over the years and this year circumstances have conspired against us. Our management is pretty good but not infallible….and they admit that which is a great trait.

Be good to see the back of him, he's made a right mess of last few windows
Surely it can't just be him that the windows since Istanbul have been so dire.
He does have a look of my old man though - "how much? You can get 4 for that price in Aldi. You must have more bloody money than sense. You do know you're only paying for the badge?" Etc.

lot to be thankful to him over the years, but too comfortable approach in last 2 years. which now leaves in in a shit situation needing big replacement in one go for KDB, Gundo, Walker, Ederson, Stones etc. dont ask me who replaced Alvarez...

Viana hopefully can handle stress, as he need too start with immense windows with quality additions othewrise we get in some duds and squad will be even older which is recipe for disaster.

The bit in bold is the most unfathomable , Alvarez got over 30 G & A last season to be replaced by no one , bizarre decision

Doku and Savinho are players you take a punt on , not to rely on
