Txiki Begiristain | Has left the club after 13 years (pg50)

I can only assume he wasn't able to spend in the summer due to the pending charges because its dereliction of duty otherwise to go into the longest ever campaign with one (old, past it) senior RB, no other defensive midfielders, and no backup strikers.

his last few transfer windows are getting worse each fucking game. Julian Alvarez sold and Mubama came in as replacement.

NB everyone - Assumptions - not fact

Alvarez was sold because of Oscar Bobb's progress.
very much doubt it. Bobb would be playing off the wing under Pep most of the time if he were fit. Alvarez played striker, sometimes even as a duo with Haaland or deeper as an 8 quite a lot last season when KDb was off for a long time.

A convenient scapegoat for so many on here, presumably because he’s already decided to leave.

The transfer decisions of the past couple of summers have been poor, no doubt about that, but those decisions only explain a degree of our recent troubles. Certainly don’t explain the recent dismal run of results. The team available today should easily have had to beat Everton.

Uncertainty over whether the manager is leaving every summer wouldn’t have helped the planning for an overhaul of the squad either.

If we'd not lost Rodri then I'm convinced we'd be in a very different postion and the outcry about poor recruitment wouldn't have surfaced so soon. No team should be so dependent on one player but sadly we were and the raft of injuries didn't help at all and just compounded things. We need as close to a Rodri replacement as we can get at the top of the shopping list.

We need another striker as well. That will give us the opportunity to sub Haaland or to rest him.

Well if you can’t spend you make sure your decent players don’t leave and if they make all these sort of profits we are supposed to believe then you don’t need to sell your decent players either

Pep says he recommended no rebuild last year as our players could still perform at the required level. Now admits that was a mistake.

I think that’s because he was going to leave this summer and knew the incomer needed to rebuild in his own way.

Some of the disrespect shown to Begiristain is pretty poor really, given everything he has done for this club. Without him, we wouldn’t have had Pep and all the success that has followed. Glad that he’s getting to go out in a blaze of glory this window, after a few admittedly underwhelming windows previously. This quote shows how highly he’s regarded within the industry.

give his jumper a statue

Totally agree there are some really spoilt, entitled posters who if things are not going their way would turn on their own family.

As always it’s only a minority….but this is a club that is run superbly from top to bottom and we do not kneejerk ( unlike our neighbours)

Pep has admitted that it was his decision to not freshen up the squad but ‘needies’ on here were pretty quick to blame Txiki.
