Txiki Begiristain | Has left the club after 13 years (pg50)

I just thought that City didn't spend money in the summer because Pep was leaving and the new (thank god it didn't happen) manager would work with the board to help decide on new players. Pep stayed , injuries happened and new players were needed.

That hasn’t aged well…and all in under a month!

Well done you!
Don’t see why it hasn’t this season is a write off if he had of done some transfer activity in the summer we may have not been in the position we are are he has already openly admitted that

I’m not sure you understand.

Pep said he didn’t want anyone, other than the deal that had already been done.

It wasn’t Txiki not doing business out of neglect, but orders!

Pep appears to have been the one that miscalculated…both on injury coverage and rapidity of decline of some players.

If we don't win any of the remaining tournaments that we are still in ,you could be right and this season ,could be seen as being less successful than the previous 12 seasons.
You spoilt child.

Some of the disrespect shown to Begiristain is pretty poor really, given everything he has done for this club. Without him, we wouldn’t have had Pep and all the success that has followed. Glad that he’s getting to go out in a blaze of glory this window, after a few admittedly underwhelming windows previously. This quote shows how highly he’s regarded within the industry.

Spot on.

So true. Begiristein has been amazing for our club.

Change happening at the perfect time for me. You’d be stupid to argue that Begiristain has done anything other than a brilliant job for the club. Built phenomenal teams and we’ve had phenomenal success.

However, I think it’s fair to say he’s done pretty poorly over the last few years. More misses than hits and I’ve seen more stuff about him recruiting local Mancunian baristas for the training ground.

I think it’s why we’re in the situation we’re in currently.

absolutely, it would do us no good at all if Txiki stayed few more years. one of his main task is squad building and the status the squad is in currently is down to him. it should have been done gradually right after the treble win to phase out older players and bring in next generation while strengthen while you are on top but instead of that we now look at how we replace 8-10 players in one summer lol.

I hope the relation between Viana and Pep is more professional than friendly, and if squad building needs to go a certain way at a certain time for the benefit of the club it wont be delayed just because Pep prefers to hold onto Walker after he is back from Milan loan etc.

at all moments we need to think not how next season is looking but how squad looks for 2-3 years ahead and plan accordingly. had we done that at the moment we won the treble we wouldnt be in this situation.

fucking hell if Txiki stays I can imagine us going back to Mahrez and ask him back after his Saudi contract is done same as with Gundogan.

pretty sure Viana already had big input on the January arrivals. he knows he will judged based on success (or failure) over next few years and he really is left with huge rebuild job that was delayed and simply not taken seriously in last 2-3 years.

The last few years that we won 7-10 trophies in?

Was told by someone pretty senior at City that he is a huge presence in european football.
On euro aways he walks into boardrooms and everyone sits up. Real, munich, juve, obvs Barca, everyone wants to talk to him

Worth pointing out that to people of a certain age, there could be a little hero worship going on there. Was a big player for Barca when some of these executives would have been young.
I don't care how successful you become, its always fun to meet a childhood hero.
