I don't think players care about the charges at all. They care about being paid. So long as they get a release clause in their contract I can't see why it would put any modern footballer off. Worst case scenario they get another signing on fee when they move somewhere else.

Liverpool were actually linked with Nunes quite a lot. He'd have probably suited a Klopp team a hell of a lot more tbh.

First of all, if all world class players only cared about "getting paid" as much as possible and nothing else matters, we would have seen a lot more world class players joining Saudi and not mainly players being past their best years looking for a final big pay day in the end of their careers.

Secondly, if a player has the option to choose between Man City and Real Madrid, they are getting paid a similar salary either way. Us paying them would only be an advantage if Real Madrid would not.

A player moving to a Man City or Real Madrid is probably the biggest move of their careers and they will of course consider all factors that will impact the probability of that move being a success on and off the pitch. Especially when it means moving away from the city/country you live and in many cases taking your family with you. Why on earth wouldn't they? From their point of view, the worst case scenario is not "well if it doesnt work out I can always go to Real Madrid next year". It's that they are stuck in a contract with a relegated club, potentially having to move their family to another country once again with no certainties about which opportunities regarding clubs/countries they will have then. All moves have risks and uncertainties but if a player can exclude some of them, like the club they are joining not being at risk of being relegated, that will obviously be seen as a positive and not completely irrelevant. Thats just common sense.

To be extremely fair to him, I think the situation is a collaboration.
But - just to piss everyone off - in terms of transfers - The year Doku.
Great player, but not for our system and upset the balance.

3 , we have 3 senior players almost done. They will be replaced next summer, when we may replace 4 maybe 5 players.More than usual but that’s just how it’s fallen,still hardly huge nor a problem. We may or my not win something this year. If we don’t we don’t.

You could add Grealish to that 3 he looks like he’s burnt his bridges. Can we rely on Stones he’s always injured. And Edersons head could be turned this summer I hope not because he’s been one of our better players this season.

You could add Bernardo to your list too as he isn't 'finished' as such but he's nowhere near the level he was previously and he's adding very little this season.

Ederson is why I said maybe 5, Stones and Grealish won’t be going anywhere. KDB, Walker, Gundogan are the 3 Bernardo a maybe. Normally we would have done something other than bring Gundogan back last summer and done KDB ,Walker next summer.
I think there are a few reasons we didn’t last summer that added up to it being better to wait until next summer. We didn’t in the hope we’d be okay we still might be ,but missing Rodri for a whole season was something we didn’t plan for. Long term I have no worries.

I don’t think stones will go either but we can’t depend on him to much with his injuries. We need a replacement for Alverez and back up for Rodri.

Im hoping we start this “re build” in January rather than a big overhaul in the summer. The club need to be putting a bit of pressure on Pep to make his mind up as well this uncertainty over his future can’t be helping the players and won’t help with any new signings
