Why is spending money always the answer? More importantly lets open up spaces in our squad and look for value in the market on up and coming players. We won the league last year, spent big and gone backwards.

Because thats what the best and top clubs do. That's why City got10 years, otherwise we'd still be shi*

Spending money and buying the right players has got City to where they are now. Without that money and the right players City would still be languishing in the PL or in the Championship.

Whether it's FFP or Sheikh Mansour via Khaldoon, those transfer purse strings have been tightened over the last couple of seasons. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/alletransfers/verein/281 - While TV money, prize money, sponsorship money, and match day revenues has been increasing.

Spending aside. Everyone knew we had to replace Kompany, and we had to buy a World class centre half to play alongside La Porte, regardless of his season ruining injury. Otamendi was going to be shown the door before Kompany left. Then we decided to keep him. Stones has had issues on and off the pitch constantly. So what do we do? We go and spend 60mill Euros on Cancelo. Regardless of who wanted him and why, Cancelo wasn't the priority, a centre half was.

What are our Scouts doing around the World? Apparently we have a huge network of Scouts spanning most leagues and most continents, yet we're unable to find these hidden and affordable gems that other PL and European clubs are able to find. Why?

As for the CFA. It's no La Masia. All the fanfare after it opened! And when Pep arrived. In truth, bar being having one of the best training facilities in the World for the 1st team, it's producing hardly any young players who are breaking into the 1st team. And if they do, their 1st team appearances are limited.

As others have posted. Just like before when we've dominated a season, rather than spending big and right to continue that dominance, we've pulled the purse strings and what we've bought have been poor and unnecessary players

That is down to Khaldoon, Soriano, (Pep), Txiki and our Scouting setup and network.

Seeing as Souness has played for Liverpool and is a Liverpool supporter through and through, I think he's always been pretty fair and honest when it comes to discussing City. He is absolutely spot on. Below.

As fans we have to ask why those in charge at City 'didn't' replace Kompany in the Summer. They knew Vinny was leaving. We all did. And they had all Summer to find and work on signing a World class centre half to replace Vinny. They didn't do it. Why?

Souness.

You can trace this back to August and the Vincent Kompany situation," Souness told Sky Sports.

"Did they know that was coming? They didn't know their best central defensive partnership and they went and bought another full back in Joao Cancelo.

"That's come back to haunt them as they've taken their mainstay out of the midfield Fernandinho, your best holding midfield player. That weakened the midfield and has caused a major issue."

We would not be one bit worse if we keep Danilo for 12 more months and dont even spend anything on Cancelo. Also it feels like Cancelo wouldnt have any problems if we ship him to Valencia in January transfer window or in the summer...

While the Rodri signing might work out well later so far he is far from being a top class PL player. 1 year can be hard after La Liga, but his job is to replace Fernandinho who was one of the motors of this team for 5-6 years now.

If we want anything next season we need to have way better signings than Rodri and Cancelo.
Top class CB we need, not someone who will play in rotation with Stones. also we need another CB to rotate as Pep wont trust a short Garcia imo. Even Fernandinho will play as CB next season if needed than Garcia.
Top class attacking midfielder instead of D. Silva.
Also lets solve the LB situation after years of problems. I would sell Mendy, sell Angelino, having Zinch as back up and sign a very good LB.
Depending on Sane we have to replace him as well. If he leaves get a very quick, dominant winger.
Get a good backup keeper as well.

Lots of work for Txiki to be done from now until the summer with scouting, finding the right targets, setting up transfers...

Will be interesting to see how Txiki and Pep will solve this summer. Also big question how Liverpool will react, last summer they spent nothing and they are on track of getting 110 points.
I wonder when they win the league do they go out and spend big or not. They can certainly make their squad stronger especially on the bench maybe midfield too also some good backup to the front three.

It's part of Pep's imaginative stubbornness, trying to shoehorn midfielders into the backline. This time he hasn't properly thought out the collateral damage it seems.

Sure, Dinho has been good. One of our best this season, no question. The hole that's left in the midfield is chasmic however, and has created way more problems that it's solved. The guy was a one man midfield, one of if not the very best in the business, and we've moved him out of his position that was critical to the way our game functions.

At our best, we do two things:

1. Defend from the front and the middle, not from the back, and when our defenders are doing as little defending as possible. This season, opposing teams almost have a free run straight to our defense anytime they break.

2. Move the ball quickly in attacking transition, passing through the lines.

We've now got Rodri and Gundogan who either both cannot meet the defensive needs of the position, and don't move the ball forward quick enough in attack to give us better chances - especially against more difficult teams. What do we think's going to happen in that situation, seriously?

Actually, Fernandinho is performing better than Otamendi & Stones as CB.

Look again at the 2nd goal for Spurs, it was Otamendi's fault.

Whomever made the decision not to replace Vincent Kompany should be sacked in my opinion for gross misconduct.

We should have looked for a replacement 12 months earlier, when it was obvious the captains career with us was virtually over because of injury.

Rodders doesn't have to be fast, nige and gaz weren't either
They were quicker I think Karen and more aggressive defensively. He doesn’t win enough and isn’t shielding our porous backline anywhere near well enough
