Txiki Begiristain

Can't believe people getting on Txiki's back. Personally don't think we ever had a shout at getting Ronaldo. Smells of ploy to get United to make a move. Once they did there was only ever one choice he'd make and City 'pulled' out of the deal simply to save face.
I agree. Embarrassment made United plunge.

He’s done a brilliant job until this week. This week shouldn’t define him, I’m sure this time next year most of you will be willing to deep throat him as we have a great window.

To any lurking rags, enjoy your expensive toy, he’s going to carry you to 2nd at best as we win the league again

People act as if City are the only club ever looking to sign anyone and that it should be easy to land targets.

People act as if players are sold in a shop and have no ties to an actual football club they’re already contracted to.

People act as if we should just pay what other clubs want us to, even if it’s 70% again on top of what we should be paying.

People act as if football is about one season or one transfer window, but football goes on forever! So what if we have a season here or there without exactly what we need in a position? Kompany retired at short notice, that’s more his fault than City’s, it was a lot more out of the blue than we give our board credit for. But why does it matter that it was a full year later that we signed his replacement? New football seasons come round every Summer so it doesn’t matter that we have a season’s dip here or there because there will be seasons after that where we get it bang on and challenge for everything again.

People act as if there are dozens of options to replace Agüero and they’re all attainable. Let’s be honest, there’s a dearth of worldwide talent of strikers, and there are hardly any young prospects (it’s like the sport had forgotten how to bring through strikers!). Only really Kane Lewandowski Haaland Mbappe Messi and CRonaldo could replace Agüero. Everyone else would be a downgrade. Not many of them were really attainable:
Kane would have been a good option at £90m but there’s no way on Earth City should be paying £160m for him, City were absolutely right not to do that.
Why would Lewandowski leave Bayern at his age? He’s tempted reports by saying he might fancy a new challenge but that’s going nowhere.
Haaland isn’t going anywhere this Summer with his buy-out clause coming in next Summer.
Mbappe has said he doesn’t want to sign for us (and he’s not really a striker anyway).
Messi is a wanker who’s strung us along for years with fucking no intention at all of ever signing for us, just to bump his wages up at Barça.
Then there was CRonaldo where there was a faint possibility we could have got him but we didn’t really fancy him and never seriously went for it.

I think Lukaku is massively overrated, and wouldn’t suit our style of play at all (he’s not got high quality one and two touch passing in his game). This Summer has been like everyone has all of a sudden forgotten how poor he was at United and inconsistent he was at Everton. United fans said Martial was a miles better player than Lukaku, and he’s bobbins!

So our options were very slim.

So it’s likely we won’t replace Agüero this Summer. There’s no point going for some chancer who we think will be the next Dias, just because Dias worked out. They could be the new Bianchi for all we know. So, just like the Kompany situation, we will have to take a year with no Agüero replacement. But football doesn’t end after this season, this isn’t our last ever chance to sign a striker, football carries on forever so we get another chance to have the squad we need in 2022-23. What’s the harm in that? We still might win everything this season anyway, we’ve got the squad to, striker or not!

So i don’t have a problem with Txiki at all. Especially as we walk away from negotiations where the selling club or player start taking the piss. That’s definitely the best thing to do.

One thing I will say though, is that Khaldoon should end the tub-thumping soundbites about signings in his end of season interviews.

“Sergio, you have to leave because we’re bringing in a new striker….”
The same Sergio who is already injured till late November? Lets be honest..the same people will be pushing the board for another striker as a backup even if he stayed. He is too injury prone to be trusted.

The majority of successful signings he has made have been more by luck than judgement. He's paid top dollar (invariably the asking price) for every player he's signed, and sells at knock-down prices.
His inability to negotiate effectively meant that we lost out on his 'first choice' replacement for Kompany, the decidedly average Koulibaly, and he pretty much panic bought Dias. Classic TB fluke.
If he hadn't been instrumental in getting Pep to City, he'd probably have been kicked out years ago, and have slithered off to some other comfy DoF old pals job in La Liga.

From what I've seen of him since he arrived, I can only imagine that if he's involved in his own pay negotiations at City, he's probably only on about £75 a week.

He's what us FOCs used to call a spiv. I certainly wouldn't buy a used car off him.
Been trying to work out what FoC’s means and apart from ‘free of charge ‘ I came up with fuckin ‘opeless cnuts which is probably the likelier one
Anyway - as it happens it might have passed you by but City with the board’s and txiki’s planning ,we have done alright and as it happens no one has matched that -
Their policy not only works but it has been successful so I’d trust them to carry on and keep those prizes coming -as they will

By the time he’ll be back from his current injury where he can’t play for 10 weeks at the moment, he will have missed 78 games in four years through injury.
Kane has missed 56 games in that timeframe n’all.

I don’t think we can afford to have players like this as they become unreliable.

As a comparison Lewandowski has missed 25 games through injury since the start of the 2013-14 season.

Excellent post.

City work as a team and it is clearly a collective responsibility, good or bad.
However, given his tub-thumping, I do think Kaldoon has some explaining to do
