Uber London loses licence to operate

The problem being that the Council picked on the new guy, because the Black Cab drivers cried foul. To use the restaurant analogy, it's akin to a new place opening up in the high street and undercutting the local gastro place, then the gastro place complaining the new place is not playing fair whilst the gastro place has rats in its own kitchen.

You've overlooked some of the drivers campaigning for employment rights. They are not the ones on the Uber commercial btw

The rags have got a tradition of attracting sponsors who cut corners. First there were the Butchers who put horsemate in the dinners of Salford school kids. Then AIG helped to undermine the world economy. Now we have Uber who hinder serious investigations.

Granted; employment rights are being eroded across the board, but the council haven't banned Uber because of employment rights. The problem is that the Black Cabs have had it their own way for years, and as soon as another company steps in and offers the consumer a better deal it puts noses out of joint. It's just simple market forces.

I have no objections to people looking for a better deal but the regulations covering Uber and other taxi firms in London will have been their for donkeys years. All Uber have to do is clean up their act and they willl get their licence back.

Market forces don't justify an organisation an organisation scanning law enforcement radios and hindering inquiries into sexual assault. Uber were banned in India and criticised in the States so Black cabs are one small part of the story.

Did you do a search on criminality associated with London Black Cab drivers?

Odd that Rossendale would help out uber when they have their own municipal bus service to protect

No. I don't doubt there are criminals in all
occupations. Would I have found organisation wide obstruction to thwart inquiries by regulators and law enforcement. That is one of the main reason Uber have lost their licence.

Can someone spare me the ideological knee-jerk bollox and explain (a) who has statutory responsibility for carrying out background checks on Uber drivers, (b) whether that has been done diligently, and (c) if not, why not?
