UCL versus Europa league

so people would prefer to be in the europa and win it rather than being in the champions league, wave good bye to haaland , because he wouldn't go to a thursday night team, also the money in the champs league is 10 x in the champs league compared to winning the europa , people need to look at the bigger picture, although it would be nice to win the europa i would rather never be in it.

Haaland is literally at an EL club at the moment!

No one wants City to be in the EL, but if we found ourselves in it after the group stages, I’d assume we’d all want to win it.

haaland is in the the EL by accident not design, dortmund are really a champs league club,we need to be in the champs league for the money, no champions league money makes life a lot harder.

i did enjoy our time in the EL though , that hamburg game was something else

That’s how the rags won it though,” by accident.”

The Europa League will always be a bit of an enigma for me, while it's great to win a trophy, and a European trophy at that. For a club with top 4 ambition or a club who is cemented in the top 4 winning the Europa League has a hint of failure to it as it's a reminder how poor you were in the champions League. For a club such as a west ham banging on the door of European places and someone who isn't expected to be top 4 it's a massive achievement.

While I'd be happy is we somehow won it it definitely has consolation written all over it as we shouldn't be anywhere near the competition.
If West Ham win it having qualified specifically for that competition then yes.
But qualifying for the CL and ending up in the Europa and winning it is a hollow trophy.
It's like dreaming of going to a Greek island for a 2 weeks holiday and ending up on a caravan site in Anglesey. You are happy / grateful for the opportunity but you know deep down it isn't where you wanted to be...

The problem with that caravan site on Anglesey is that it’s full of scousers.

Actually they didn’t. The season the rags won the EL (2016-17), they were in the competition from its onset rather than dropping down after finishing third in their CL group.
They finished fifth in the previous season’s PL so were a fully fledged Thursday night club that year.

I stand corrected.

The Europa League always makes me think the trophies that they used to have in Sunday League footy back in the day. All the decent teams in the league would be in the proper cups whereas us tubsters ended up in some sort of Shield or "Plate" competition after getting knocked out in the first round. It was always great to win it on the day but you knew your place come the league presentation night. It's the equivalent of winning "sportsman of the year" for your team!!
