Uefa allow La Liga games to be played abroad | Plan for Villarreal v Barcelona in Miami scrapped (p3)

I would have thought he approved it both for the reason above and because it's a good little earner for Serie A/La Liga which helps them try to bridge the gap to the PL - which could stave off the threat of the super league for a little longer. There's no way in hell fans in this country will allow games to be played abroad, so if Serie A and La Liga are more relaxed about it then they could try and breach that gap.

Get a little more TV revenue/sponsorship from the US/Saudi and boost their coughers that way.
The thing is as we have seen on social media etc, a lot of fans of the bigger teams are from abroad. Places like the Premier Leagues reddit is riddled with them, same with Twatter etc. There will be enough fans of certain clubs praising the idea to make clubs know that they can do it.
At the end of the day there will be enough fake Irishmen in Boston and New York picking up tickets and sliding into pop up club merchandise stores.
It was only a couple of weeks ago when the Premier League had their watch even in Kansas city, with Sky Sports taking their broadcast there.
They even interviewed our fans there, and you could see which ones only started following us since the 2021 takeover as they answered Bruno as our best player in the Premier League and the others who have obviously followed us for longer were saying the likes of Shearer etc.

Most of them were Chelsea fans before.

Uefa are cunts
barca are cunts
Villareal are pussies for being bullied into it

La Liga is shite anyway, over hyped championship level football 90% of the time

If you boost your coughers, your nose will run.

Yes, significantly so. There was even talk of one of the US franchises moving to London because of the appetite to watch the NFL in this country.

The Superbowl was watched by around 3.4m people in the UK. Which is nearly double the viewing figures for PL games in the US despite the much larger population. The FA Cup final peak audience was around 5-6 million (I can't find the exact figures) so it's grown pretty significantly.

Not so much with Spurs players, it seems.

The day this happens in the premier league is the day I cancel my season ticket and give up all together. Got to have some principles about you after all.

I do think the premier league will hold out a long time due to backlash.

Why can’t these yank cunts be happy with pre season friendlies. Improve your own league and leave ours alone you sick fat bastards.
The rags had their first ever post-season friendlies this summer gone. Although it looked embarrassing for them, it won't stop them doing the same again next season. Others will follow suit.

If they do it here, it should be for the cup semi finals. Given London pricing, train pricing and ticket pricing, it might be cheaper…
I went on a Progress software training course in the 90's and the UK training site was close to London. I worked out the costs and it was actually cheaper to go and do the course in Boston in the US. Had a great time.

UEFA "reluctantly" sanction the proposal.

They could have just said no.

I bet Cerefin is looking at it in case it could be a nice little earner for the champions league to move the final outside of Europe.

Won't be long until we're playing our "home" match against the rags in Tampa.
I know. Was it a case of

No, No, No No, Oh alright then.

Players protesting the decision in many La Liga games. League officials said they were open to discuss and explain "the project" with fans, players and clubs.

Surely there is cause for legal action from the Villarreal season ticket holders. They've been sold a season ticket for 19 home games, Villarreal have effectively broken that sales agreement with this move. Its not as simple as refunding 1/19th of the cost either as each game holds different weight as reflected by individual match day pricing. They should all be entitled to claim full refunds. If enough of them did that or expressed a desire to do that, they'd lose the money they stand to make from this farcical game and they'll have no support all season. Then the game doesnt happen. Fans have got to do more to prevent this.

I agree, but hasn't a precedent already been set by the refunds for the games missed during Covid?
There's a difference in that this missing fixture has been set by the club rather than a global pandemic, but is that a sufficient difference in law?

Fair play to all those who voiced their disapproval, players. Fans etc. It seems all the negativity around it resulted in the correct decision being made and we get to enjoy the nice silver lining of Tebas looking like an utter **** once again. Heads have to roll for this surely, he's proven he isn't in alignment with the entire league he is supposed to be acting in the best interests of.

La Liga's statement on the cancellation is a disgrace. There's no hint of contrition and not a single mention of the very valid concerns raised by fans and players. I thought it was going to start with ''LaLiga deeply regrets that this project has caused such division in the game" but no...

LaLiga said in a statement on Tuesday night: 'LaLiga deeply regrets that this project, which represented a historic and unparalleled opportunity for the international expansion of Spanish soccer, will not be able to move forward.

'Holding an official match outside our borders would have been a decisive step in the global growth of the competition, strengthening the international presence of clubs, the positioning of players, and the visibility of Spanish soccer in a strategic market such as the United States.

'The project fully complied with all federative regulations and did not affect the integrity of the competition, as confirmed by the competent institutions responsible for ensuring compliance, which opposed it for other reasons.

'In an increasingly competitive global landscape, where leagues such as the Premier League or competitions like the UEFA Champions League continue to expand their reach and ability to generate revenue, initiatives like this are essential to ensure the sustainability and growth of Spanish soccer.'

'Renouncing such opportunities hinders the generation of new income, limits clubs' capacity to invest and compete and reduces the international projection of the entire Spanish soccer ecosystem.'

He's acting in the best financial interests of La Liga but doesn't give a stuff about fans, players or individual clubs.
The "individual clubs" bit will vary depending of whether he fancies a trip to a major game.

If he really wants La Liga to be more competitive, he needs to rethink the distribution of TV money rather than coming up with batshit crazy ideas that make the league even less appealing to watch than it already is. It really is as simple as that, but he's never going to take on the greedy bastards at Real and Barca.

He doesn't want it to be more competitive, he just wants it to be financially stronger.
