UEFA, Barca and tonight's CL games.

The premier league rights are sold worldwide. The whole product has already been sold.

They knew the UEFA agreement when selling it and it has been happening for several years and tends to mess a club up every season.

Hibs v Hearts last night was not on the television for the very same reason, yet TV companies had the option to show it.

It may have changed but Hibs v Hearts would have had to start at 4.30pm in case of extra time and pens to be allowed on TV due to being a cup replay with possible extra time and pens, UEFA just want no 'direct competition' this season at least.

It's been a UEFA rule for a few seasons that no domestic top flight game can be played at the same time as a Champions League game.
I seem to remember us kicking off at 5pm one Wednesday a few years back against Porto I think in the Europa league because we couldn't play on the Thursday. I think it was because United were also at home on the Thursday and they took preference as they were higher in the UEFA rankings at the time.

Ah but different rules for Barca. Even their transfer ban started when they decided it could!!

The only thing I can think of is that it was the match from the World Club Championship week, and there's some dispensation for it. It's possible that there aren't any other available weeks in Spain.

Just a guess, mind.

you mean the world club championship barca were allowed to parachute into at semi final stage?

the whole thing re barca is a fucking joke.

there used to be strict rules governing the non playing of any league football on a chumps night, but i think they watered it down a bit when they strung out this last 16 stage to over multiple evenings

You mean the semi-final stage which every other European club who plays in that competition start at? It's not just happened just because of Barca.

It's been a pretty common rule for years that a game could not clash with the Champions League etc. The game that has already been mentioned that kicked off at 5pm a few years back in the Europa League on a Wednesday because it could potentially clash with the Champions League if the game went to extra time and penalties.

Stop knocking Barca, chaps...

They very kindly let a young, up and coming manager learn the ropes and practise with them (and with some German mob) to become good enough to take over at City.
