State bailing out airlines....
NoIf they cancel this season's champion league do you think uefa will try and get us to accept a one year ban backdated to this season so that they can come out of this mess looking like they are tough
It would give us a hell of a bargaining chip !My friend made a great point yesterday, if UEFA lose their cash cows of the CL and Euro’s, surely they will look to settle out of court rather than a costly court battle?
From memory, if UEFA and City agree they can suspend the ban until the hearing, they don't need CAS's permission to do that.I don't think we will be excluded without a hearing but we have to get CAS to lift it. That was not our initial approach. I think we wanted a fast-tracked hearing. Now there seems little chance of that so we are going to have to get into a dialogue with CAS otherwise we wont be in the CL next season. All I am saying is that the effect of coronavirus means the ball has been put in our court now and we have to do something. I hope we already have.
That is a great point. UEFA will be seriously weakened financially by this crisis. With TV and sponsorships it could be hit well into the hundeds of millions (its annual revenue is usually over £2bn). The last thing they can afford is a potentially catastrophic court battle. The other issue is that when the dust settles on the crisis UEFA will be desparate to attract external investment to help football get back on its feet. They can't afford to upset our owners. It will be a whole new landscape. My friend made a great point yesterday, if UEFA lose their cash cows of the CL and Euro’s, surely they will look to settle out of court rather than a costly court battle?

Never mind the ban being suspended.
If no domestic leagues get finished how do they decide who qualifies for any UEFA competitions next season?

UEFA could lose that amount easily if this crisis lasts just a few more months. They may even get tangled up with lots of legal actions from sponsors and broadcasters related directly to coronavirus. UEFA has got deep pockets (not as deep as our owners) but fighting us in court would suck the life out of them. UEFA is now facing a commercial crisis which makes the City FFP case look like very small beer.Unfortunately they wrote into their opperating plan a cash reserve of at least €500,000,000. I think it's currently about €600,000,000 ish IIRC
I wonder about the rags' bank covenants. Is there provision for force majeur? Will their debts be called in?There is also another scenario that could happen further down the line if football is suspended for a far greater period perhaps affecting next years leagues clubs with substantial wealth through their owners will find little trouble with their finances, however, clubs with no such backing or substantial levels of secured debt like our friends across the city may have to go UEFA to allow them to spend money that would put them in danger of falling foul of FFP ! They could plead these as an emergency due to the current crisis, if UEFA didn't grant this thr possibility of clubs going to the wall could see them getting permission. If that was to happen the FFP would be finished as it would be impossible to aduicate it in the future. This may seem far fetched but even a club with the finances of United would have trouble with dwindling income and reduced capital as their 500m debt would become crippling !
If you had a business empire, why would you sell the only profitable part that is propping up the rest of the failing assets? I reckon you would have to prise it out of the Glazers cold, dead hands. We don't know the full facts about the Glazers' finances, but their malls are already in trouble. Will they have to sell the rags to make ends meet? Cue the entry of the Saudis, just about the only ppl who will have the cash. CFG might buy 10%, just to help them out, like!
Becos they have debts to pay. We don't know the size of them or the terms but there comes a point when liquidation of assets, even profitable ones, is necessary. If banks call in their US debts.......If you had a business empire, why would you sell the only profitable part that is propping up the rest of the failing assets? You have not been paying attention to the collapse in oil prices? We don't know the full facts about the Glazers' finances, but their malls are already in trouble. Will they have to sell the rags to make ends meet? Cue the entry of the Saudis, just about the only ppl who will have the cash.
I see what you mean. And regarding your earlier post, we don’t know the Glazers financial situation. The last I heard was that United were “amply” keeping the failing malls afloat. That third hand info is 5 years old though.Becos they have debts to pay. The same is probably true of City. CFG will be hit massively worldwide by coronavirus chaos. Sheikh Mansour will have taken a huge hit with the oil price war and now faces a global recession which will damage all his investments. The appetite for a legal battle must have been reduced on both sides. Both parties have now got bigger fish to fry. The same is probably true of CAS. The world will be changed by this pandemic and that includes football.
