A cynic would suggest that any possible upcoming two-window transfer ban from FIFA, would fit rather conveniently into UEFA suddenly deciding some of our rivals to make hay whilst the sun shines...

But none of these clubs have owners who will pump in hundreds of millions or even tens of millions out of their own pockets.

Obviously we need to be sure that the tweet from City Xtra is true and accurate. If it is it would appear to be a major climb down by UEFA, provoked by advance notification of the judgement in M. Dupont's case or by concern at the outcome of any appeal to the courts City might make. My own view is that Article 101 of tfeu is as explicit a prohibition of any limitation on investment as you can get and this would be the basis of City's case. If I'm right UEFA are trying to preserve the obligation to make a profit (the break even rule) while accepting owner investment. This would have to rule out any action against City because UEFA's record hardly shows a commitment to fair treatment for all. The rules were introduced in 2009 and at the end of the first accounting period in 2014 City had a world record "fine" imposed. A year later UEFA changed the rules to allow exactly the kind of investment City's owners had made whilst also excluding City from it. If they punish City in 2019 for owner investment and then permit it weeks or months later City's lawyers would eat them alive in court. Or it could be even simpler - getting involved in questioning the accounts and sponsorship policies of major Abu Dhabi companies is something UEFA surely cannot be mad enough to contemplate. I think we'd all like to hear PB's views on this new development.

UEFA are in a real mess over this.

If FFP is ruled illegal in April they will have some explaining to do.

They have acted pretty stupidly being dictated to by a Cartel of clubs for fear of a break away. A ruling body should not be in bed with some of the participants of the competition. They are in so much bother if City can be bothered.

The FIFA case is different but hopefully if we are guilty we can appeal and delay.
