What's 15 Mpoumpoulinas in Piraeus like in general?

We've paid for a newly refurbished apartment, but looking at google maps they' not changed anything in the area to go off since 2014 lol

Hi mate, this in behind the main train station in Piraeus. I can promise you things won’t have changed since the 2014 photos, Greece are skint mate. You should be fine round here though despite the place needing a bit more than a lick of paint. You are close to the 2 marina areas of Pasalimani and Mikrolimano that I mentioned, nice round there and upmarket bars. Use the Piraeus station to gain access to the Metro for both Athens and/or the stadium further along in Piraeus. @Mifred, Piraeus is fine. Working class area in need of some redevelopment but safer than a lot of the central areas. Good and safe hotels by the main port and marina areas, and close to the stadium. Just expect to have more choice of drinking in central Athens around Monistaraki.

Hi. We’re in the Magenta Luxury Suites address Zaloggou 4, Athina 106 78,

Seems closeish to the Acropolis but also not far from Omonia metro. Any advice?

Hi buddy, look at cancelling and relocating to the areas I have previously mentioned in the thread in my longer posts if you can. You are right in the backstreets of Omonia here in one of the plentiful boutique hotels. You’d probably be fine but it’s rough as fuck round here and not the place you want to be walking round whilst half cut at night or with your Mrs.

We’re on non cancellable rate. Will
Be careful and get taxis back at night. All the reviews are positive about the hotel and the area around it so will take extra care, cheers for the info

Sure you'll be fine mate, stick in groups and do the usual precautions.

No problem mate, I have reached out to a family member who has echoed exactly what I’ve said for the Moschato area. They have also said there are some working refugees housed here and nearby Kaminia, both working class areas.

Please do not take my comments on the thread as scaremongering, like people on the forum accused @kerem gokmen of pre-Istanbul. I am an apolitical Brit with extended family who live there. Greece, and Athens in particular, is a very homogenous society with a lack of diversity. It is not the same as UK and Western Europe where the majority of us live together happily. Prime example being the NBA player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, was born and raised in Athens to Nigerian parents. He was treated like shite his whole life and not allowed citizenship; the Greeks only want to claim him now that he is a famous star. Even families from other European countries are not widely accepted within their society or offered citizenship.

Greece has been through an unprecedented economic crisis in the last 10-15 years compared to the rest of Europe. Unvetted people arrive there and there’s not a great deal the government can do about it, they are at the mercy of the rest of the EU due to restrictions, crippling debt, and internal corruption. The face of the country will change over the coming decades as they won’t pay their debt off this side of the 21st century, the wider affluent society of Greece will probably never return. Their population is decreasing by the year, with younger generations fleeing in their droves in search of education and opportunities elsewhere.

The Omonia, Exarchia and Viktoria areas have a predominantly African and Asian immigrant population, the local government try to keep it that way. It’s not like our cities where everybody mixes well, there are not many second and third generation immigrants in Athens. Poverty and hostility are high in these areas; people are desperate and have different social norms. Avoid these areas if you want to keep hold of your shit and have nothing bad happen to your Mrs. There are deep-rooted social issues there that we cannot control as outsiders, it would be awful to see City fans caught up amongst that by wading into the wrong area in search of a cheap hotel or bar.

cheers for the local info mate.

Although must say the info does sound quite daunting & you do paint quite a picture.

Did you make the Istanbul trip & if so would be interesting to hear your views/comparisons of the two cities - minus the coach travel debacle to the Ataturk stadium :-)

Was slightly apprehensive when making the trip to Istanbul this summer since I was travelling solo but hearing & bumping into Blues on pretty much every street corner eased my mind & in the end was a fascinating & memorable adventure with no mither.
