What islands have you been to mate? I've got family out there and have found Greece extortionate for food and drink. Turkey, Albania, Spain (outside Madrid and Barcelona), central Europe and most Balkan countries all cheaper. Don't think we'd ever move to Greece as the economy is so erratic.

Remember that I'm not talking about the height of the season. And I'm not talking about Corfu, etc.
Went to Santorini first. Flew from Athens. Athens shocked me a bit. Prices were comparable with basically any west European capital. Santorini was kind of pricey, but I expected it. Didn't much like it. It's a weird place. And I've never liked beaches made of volcanic rock (which is all you get there). You've got couples from Korea on the esplanade who've flown out there for a weekend just to get married. That kind of thing.
Had a fantastic hotel room in a boutique hotel, though, with a balcony immediately facing the caldera. As I remember it, it wasn't through the roof. Maybe 100€ a night, maybe a bit more?
Caught the ferry from there to Naxos. Prices dropped hugely, for everything. I mean, like, 50€ a night. Hotel room, meals. Naxos was just about the right size to imagine living there, and I made vague enquiries about long-term rents/buying. Hiked up Mount Zeus (the home of Zeus, so legend has it!). Fairly rugged path, but not too high.
Paros, opposite, is even cheaper, so I'm told. Went from there to Iraklia (I think). And from there to Koufonisia. Everybody really nice, really friendly, and prices were very affordable everywhere. In short, I did a bit of a tour of the Lesser Kyklades. So with the exception of Santorini, I didn't head for the place that the hordes of kids go to to party. And I was there in April, May.

Later that summer I went to Iceland. Hiking holiday. That's a whole different story. Perhaps the most astonishing landscapes I've seen anywhere on earth, apart from the Sahara.
Oh, and prices through the roof.

Great info, thanks very much for sharing. I will look into these islands as potential future destinations.

I find Greece to be cheaper than Spain and France or at least comparable.

I regularly go to Rhodes.

Ffs lads. This is an invented farce. We thrashed Seville home and away. As a result they were relegated to the Thursday night cup which they just about won.
Stop giving money to the corrupt monkeys aka Uefa.
I'm not going and I won't be watching on the tele either.

#fuckem

Agreed, I’ll only watch if one of the TV’s in Dixons or Currys has it on !

It's been around since 1972. The amount of stuff that gets moaned about on this forum. Cringeworthy

No. No and no again. The original Super Cup has been around since 1972. I had no problems with that. A few years ago Uefa decided to appease the history boys, they decided that because teams, (cough the rags, Barca etc) were too shit to compete in the Champs League knock out stages, they could keep the money rolling in by playing in the Thursday Night Cup.
My argument is about the various organisations inventing ways to keep the money rolling in. It devalues the competitions and as I state, we've thrashed Seville to put them in the cup they have now won to ergh play us.
The only funny bit about this is that it was revamped to help the rags and they are that shit they still can't win it.
My moan is how, from Fifa (Club World Cup) downwards competitions are being manipulated purely for greed, the players get no rest and we get fleeced.
