Never mind mathematical probability or various paradoxes, I just cannot believe that we are the pinacle of intelligence (as any matchday thread will prove) and I think the world would be a better place knowing more. I also hope it would bring an end to religeous hatred and intolerance and it was shown that it was a thing of the past.
Ps - any theists among us, please don''t jump on my back and hi-jack the thread on my final point, that is a thread all of its own.
Not going to hijack this thread, but if aliens did visit us do you think they would believe in a god? There is no way they would have all the answers, and unless they are nothing like us, i think they (some of them) too would believe in a god.
My last post as its a good thread and doesn't need this hijack;
I feel any civilisation sufficiently advanced does not need a god to feel secure. We have always had gods. Gods of earth, wind, water, the harvest etc etc. We couldn't explain everyday occurancies and needed to feel in control. Praying to a god of the harvest gave a limited sense of being able to effect what would happen etc.
Religion is from a by gone era (imho) and whilst it still does much good in the world, it also does much harm due to its powerful effect. If religion was not taught to children for just 50 years, the world would be free of its oppression.
As I say, unfair on Buzzer to have this discussion here, if you want to continue it, please start a thread and I would happily contribute but the simple answer is no. I do not think ET would have their own gods if they have mastered interstellar travel.
