Just wondering what everyone else thinks about all the derbies..which is most intense etc? And are there any i've not listed? (this shit midlands derby has prompted me to start this thread)

I'd say....

Celtic v Rangers (because it's based on religion)
Manchester City vs Manchester United
Millwall vs West Ham United
Newcastle United vs Sunderland
Cardiff City vs Swansea City
Everton vs Liverpool
Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur
Liverpool vs Manchester United
Sheffield United vs Sheffield Wednesday
Manchester United vs Leeds United
Aston Villa vs Birmingham City
Derby County vs Nottingham Forest
Portsmouth vs Southampton
Brighton v Crystal Palace
Fulham vs Chelsea
Ipswich Town vs Norwich City
Wolverhampton vs West Brom
I would say that without a doubt you could ask any fan of any of those clubs you've listed and they'll say that their local rivalry is the fiercest in the country.

millwall v city

I'd say you could quite easily substitute Leeds in for the millwall there. I've not met many fans that like Leeds. I even went to Turkey before and I was talking to the locals and they asked me what club I supported and they started talking to me about our players. Someone asked what I though of Leeds (when the name was mentioned those around me, about 10 of them all spat on the ground at the mention of their name, which I thought was a pretty nice touch). I hesistated for a moment before saying one word, 'scum' which was greeted by massive cheers and they each ordered me a drink. I like Turkey, I had a new found respect for them after that.

Great guys Turkish football fans, stabbed and killed two Leeds fans in 2000...

And I agree with the poster that mentioned Stoke vs Vale, haven't played each other for years, but very intense rivalry none-the-less.

It's only Leeds fans, they were probably being provactive and its no coincidence that trouble follows them everywhere they go, they bring it on themselves.

It's a difficult question to answer, as different derbies are intense for different reasons.

In terms of quality, the old firm game is dross. In terms of it being an exciting game, its also dross. In terms of trouble between the fans, there's really not much of it on matchday. A couple of arrests here and there but there's never any fighting etc. Old firm games have been shite for nearly 10 years now. I think the media build it up to be bigger than it is, hence people get strange opinions of the fixture.

In terms of quality the ayrshire Derby and the Edinburgh Derby aren't good either. But what you get, well in ayrshirr anyway, is trouble breaking out all over the place, streets were lined with bricks the last time the two clubs met and kilmarnock was a bit of a warzone that night.

Swansea cardiff appears a bigger version of the above, where there's fans causing trouble inside and outside the ground but the match itself isn't up to much.

I don't know what order to put the fixtures in, but the following have to be included.

City v Rags
Swansea v Cardiff
West Ham v Milwall
Burnley v Blackburn
Birmingham v Villa

In Scotland...

Hibs v Hearts
Celtic v Rangers
Kilmarnock v Ayr

-- Sat Aug 27, 2011 5:48 pm --

Infact there's more trouble at Auchinleck Talbot v Cumnock matches than any other fixture in Scotland.

I bet not many of you will have heard of either club, never mind have any knowledge of the rivalry. Not a dig btw, just pointing out that you don't always have to look at the big fixtures, rangers Celtic etc for intense rivalries.
