UK far right trouble

The fact is that we need to suppress the primitive tribal instincts of the 'native' English population. They are getting upset by the massive shift in ethnic demographics in some areas while forgetting that 'english' is not actually a thing. Our little island has for thousands of years been populated by immigrants and this is no different. If we need to manage certain types of information (truthful or otherwise) to keep the peace then so be it. Fortunately for today's patriots those arriving in boats today are not armed like their french, Roman, or Scandinavian predecessors. Historically we have not exactly been averse to turning up in another country uninvited either.

Do you not lose something important though when you suppress the truth and manage information?

North Korea, Saudi Arabia, China are all very orderly societies but I would much rather live in a country with more disorder and crime if it meant more freedom of expression and more access to the truth.

I'm not saying you want Britain to become North Korea but it's difficult to draw the line as to which information you suppress and which you don't.

As an example, do you think it should have been revealed that Salman Abedi was Muslim when he blew up Manchester Arena or do you think it should have been covered up?

In terms of CCTV surveillance of our population I think we are someway ahead of those countries, and I think we've arrested / imprisoned more of our people for social media posts than Russia in the last few years, but I think it's well intended and for good reasons. Apart from when I'm wanking or picking my nose I'm not particularly bothered about surveillance.
I think the arena bombers identity should have been released, but they should maybe have kept his links to a particular mosque under wraps, and the fact that he was already known/under suspicion as that wasn't helpful in terms of community cohesion

I agree a lot of legislation is well intended but that doesn't always mean the outcome is good.

When I read that we have more people arrested/imprisoned for social media posts than Russia (if that's true) personally I think that's shameful. I'm sure lots of people have posted things that I find disagreeable or horrible but when you see what people are getting away with/released for, or the endless number of people who can't even get a police officer to investigate a crime meanwhile 'non-crime hate incidents' are being investigated then you have to think there's a sickness at the heart of our justice system.

Interesting to hear what you think should/shouldn't be revealed...I strongly disagree but always interested to hear your opinion on where you'd draw the line.

Tbf the stats don't tell the whole story - russians are probably less inclined to post anything that their govt wouldn't like in the first place.
I think the sickness you describe is a certain level of hypocrisy in our justice system described by RW protesters as 2 tier policing etc. it certainly is a thing, but we have to police our population appropriately to keep public order. The fact is we are an aging population that demands an increasingly comfortable lifestyle for less effort. Coupled with this is the fact that we are a nation in decline economically. Immigration on a huge scale is probably our only hope of keeping the wheels turning for another generation and beyond. The problem is that no government will admit this for fear of the electorate giving them the boot. We basically need open borders and relatively uncontrolled immigration as well as gradual reintegration with the EU if we are to survive economically.
It would be nice to have a government that would be grown up enough to say this, but having one that follows this policy direction while pretending it isn't to keep the natives happy may be for the best.
