UK/GB/England Day

If we had a day set aside to celebrate being English it would only be hijacked by politicians.

Cue visits by BBC fluffy journos in schools and hospitals watching the villainous ruling classes squeezing votes out of the brain-dead electorate.

Lots of flags lots of cheesy grins without any substance at all.

I'm English and i'm happy to be English but it seems odd to want to shout about it because strangely people I know actually know i'm English.

So it's a no from me.

Its a celebration.....The British psyche oozes negativity, and to be cynical about everything is default it seems, maybe the country could try to be positive about something hahaha

I love Manchester but can't stand London.

Any celebration will over involve London which isn't English in any way shape or form now....it's a cosmopolitan shithole.

A Manchester day i'd celebrate though ;-)

If you want to fly a little union jack in your adopted country to celebrate your Englishness/ Britishness then knock yourself out - I doubt any Australians will either notice or care, but if it makes you feel better, then go for it, but back here in Blighty I doubt your idea will be taken that seriously.
It does amuse me that some folk seem to get more patriotic exponentially the further they move from their homeland.

wtf are you babbling on about its not for me you soft sod.... I celebrate Oz day , Its where I live and Im proud of it........my question was would it be a good idea to have a GB day for the people who are actually proud to be British ?

St George is the patron saint on many countries not just England, and its not a national holiday and basically no-one gives two shits about it, its basically ignored

This is a light hearted thread to gauge the way City fans feel about having a national day for YOUR country, I love Australia Day, Im puzzled why Britain is so lacking in patriotism, hence this thread, its meant in a light hearted way though but as usual the loony miserable lefties have to turn it into some serious fucking issue/slagfest, are you ever happy about anything ?

It is the British way, City would not be City without all the moaning bastards that support us ;)

As for Australia Day, i feel a bit uncomfortable with the full on patriotism, some of it looks like a Nuremberg rally, but with sunshine and beaches.
Each to their own i suppose, and i am never going to knock back a public holiday. If we can have one for a horse race, why not for the first fleet.

St George's day is ideal (had many a fine piss up on St George's Day, St Patrick's Day, St Andrew's Day and St David's Day for that matter) however it needs to be inclusive and protected from being hijacked by the far right.

Not quite, it marks the day, 26th January 1788, when the first settlers landed in Australia and formed the first European settlement.

I was in Sydney once on Australia day. Loads of old cars, some planes flew very low and me and the mrs didn't pay for a a drink all day. Top day out.
