Phil was even less than 4 out of 10, I wouldn't rate him at all for his non-performance. Asked to play in-between lines, all passing lanes to him always covered by at least three Ukr players, it was just horrible to watch. His England career so far has been non-existent, just continuation of what he had endured when playing for U21, I am not even sure why this manager bothers calling him in. They have no fecking clue what to do with players like him. Maddison has just experienced how Southgate can turn you into a shit player when you play the best football of your career. Kane, Saka, Rice and now Bellingham are the signposts of this team and good luck to you as a player if you manage to fit in somehow into this formation and the game-plan (what game-plan?).

Exactly this,I wouldn't think less of Southgate if he didn't select foden.
Tbf I couldn't think less of him as a tactician and team selector anyway.

He knows Foden is a brilliant player but hasn't the 1st clue about getting him to fit in the team and maintain his preffered wishy washy system.
Instead he will keep selecting him for the squad, with zero intent to use him properly,I think he'd be happier if Foden was injured or playing shit for City.
It removes a problem he is not capable of solving.

I’ve been talking anyone who’ll listen for two years - Bellingham isn’t that good. Not yet. He could be, but really isn’t yet.

The hype around him might be the most over-the-top in terms of actual quality I’ve ever seen. His agent must be fucking brilliant.
The new Deli Alli. Could be a superstar, or he could have matured quicker than others.

He’s not great technically either. He may turn out to be a Lampard regen, but has A long way to go.

I thought walker gave a "fuck me" exasperation near the end because he was simply having to do 3 jobs out there tonight. He was rb, rw once saka went off (wait he only went off in the 86th?!) and babysitting Maguire. With John boy there it's a whole lot easier for him

just a fan of England (I know that’s classed as trolling) and try and see the positives. Ive said we played poorly tonight but it’s really not all doom and gloom some are desperate to make out.
In my opinion the England squad has been the most talented in the world since the England Euros. The whole world and his dog knew England would not beat Italy in that final. Roberto Mancini outpointed him as a manager in the same way the Croatia manager outpointed him in the Russia World Cup semi final.

I’m sure we’ll qualify because it’s a talented squad. We could go far in the Euro’s, but the only certainty is we won’t win it because Gareth Waistcoat is wasting our generational talents. We’re a half decent manager away from winning a tournament.

You are right, it isn’t doom and gloom. It’s fucking frustrating and a criminal waste. Southgate resides at the apex of everything I despise about our Football Authorities. He’s like Ian Huntley to me.

Definitely not doom and gloom though.

I try not to over analyse who should play over who. It’s never really bothered me if any Hammers players don’t get selected, a lot of uproar Bowen and JWP not included on Hammers forum - but all clubs throw pelters at any England manager for not picking their players.

Personally I’d rather JWP over Henderson but they are slightly different players, Henderson more defensive - also I think Southgate likes Henderson for his experience. Agree though he didn’t offer alot tonight.
Bowen should be in the squad. He’s a better player than headless chicken Rashford. Southgate just too cautious for me. Kalvin Phillips nowhere near as good as Ward Prowse. Controversially I also think JWP is better than Rice though you will perhaps be a better judge.

We’ve had recent wins and very good performances against Ukraine, Italy in this group.

World Cup we played really well against France but obviously lost, and the 3-0 wins v Senegal and Wales we were very good.

3-3 v Germany was a great watch unfortunately Popes last min error cost us the win. Draws v Italy and Germany before that were good performances also.

Obviously some hate England and Southgate so much so will always give very little credit or be rational when it comes to England.
I think the “very little rationality” argument could just as easily be applied to people that refuse to entertain the idea that Southgate is holding back a supremely talent squad (leaving out the likes of Henderson, Maguire, and a few others farcically selected by Southgate).
